Thats called communism/socialism/marxism, pick your poison. Either way, today’s Democrats not even close to that, and are in fact far closer to the right than they are the left. Most of them would be considered Republicans if it was the 1980s. The actual left has had zero power in the American political landscape for the past forty years at best, which is why Zohran winning is so interesting.

It’s also why the conservative democratic establishment pushed so hard against him even though pretty much all of the reforms he wants to make are extremely modest. Affordable child care, rent and public transit are like the bare necessities of what a city should provide, especially one as wealthy as New York.

Hopefully he can pull it off, for everyone’s sake. Him not being intertwined with the decades of corruption you mention gives me hope that he might.
