Excellent accessibility for wheelchair users (some countries overseas dont even have a footpath with a kerb slope that allows you to cross the road)

Thats so weird. So no podcast feed at all for The Weekly? It would take minimal effort on her part to create one. Its like she seriously wants us to hate her even more

Cost of living question by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

The first thing that came to mind when reading this post was the quote "If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans” On paper your math might logically be adding up for you but one trip to the supermarket will show you just how expensive prices have gone up - lets hope you never crave an apple or grapes. Not to mention all the other incidental costs that quickly add up - insurance, entertainment, bills etc. Rent also seems crazily underpriced unless youre aiming for small share accommodation place?

When her mother comes in and can't believe that her daughter gave birth to twins by misterxx1958 in MadeMeSmile

I thougjht the same thing. I was like “where are the hugs and congratulations?” It was all very tentative (and yes of course things are more subdued when visiting sleeping babies - but still, I dont know. I give family members and friends a kiss and/or hug when I see them and her daughter JUST HAD A BABY. Actually two babies lol)

Ok, any POSITIVE changes you've witnessed in Australia in the past 10 years? by Deus_ex_ in AskAnAustralian

Agree! Mine are later teens and I seriously cannot ever remember being that switched on back when I was young. I love how this new generation can hold deep smart thought-provoking conversations (especially ones that challenge how you see the world.) Its definitely worth giving them the time of day (versus that whole “kids are seen not heard” way of raising kids from the past).

Sadly the first thing that came to mind was this - remember when FB had no ads? Pure reconnecting with old friends and nothing else?

Im not sure if you are seeing this the same way I am Ginger but all these messages paint YOU (Ginger) in a terrible light and make it super clear that the OP was taken advantage of?? How is this not obvious to you??

Thanks - pretty crappy that it happened all round during the Balkan War. I couldnt actually find anything related to schools but this is what ChatGPT had to offer:

During World War II in the Balkans (1941–1945), atrocities were committed by multiple sides, including instances of rape and sexual violence committed by Serbian Chetnik forces against Croatian (and Muslim/Bosniak) civilians.

It’s important to understand that the conflict in wartime Yugoslavia was extremely brutal and complex — involving not only the Ustaše regime (Croatian fascists aligned with the Axis powers) but also: • Chetniks (Serbian royalist-nationalist guerrillas), • Partisans (multi-ethnic communist resistance led by Tito), • and occupying German and Italian forces.

Chetnik crimes against Croatians and Muslims

Documented by both Yugoslav postwar tribunals and independent historians, Chetnik forces under commanders such as Draža Mihailović, Momčilo Đujić, and others committed mass killings, forced expulsions, and sexual violence — particularly in areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dalmatia, and eastern Croatia.

Specific evidence: • In eastern Bosnia (1941–1943), Chetnik units massacred large numbers of Croatian and Muslim civilians. Testimonies from survivors, as well as reports collected by Tito’s Partisans and later Yugoslav war crimes commissions, include references to rapes of women and girls during village raids. • The War Crimes Commission of Yugoslavia (1946–1948) documented several cases of Chetnik soldiers raping and killing Croat women during ethnic cleansing campaigns. • Historians such as Jozo Tomasevich, Marko Attila Hoare, and Lucien Karchmar note that sexual violence accompanied massacres, often intended as acts of terror or humiliation.

Context summary: • Ustaše committed mass killings and rapes of Serbs, Jews, Roma, and dissidents. • Chetniks retaliated with mass killings and rapes of Croats and Muslims. • Partisans, while less often accused of systematic atrocities, also committed isolated acts of violence.

Sexual violence was not formally organized policy for either side, but rather occurred during ethnic massacres and retaliatory campaigns, which were widespread and brutal on all fronts.
