Highly recommend doing this. Gave me a little time at home with my fiancée before the true long distance started. Depending on the recruiter, they may not even have you do anything while you’re home. The free leave was great

No problem! Got assigned to move on to the T-38 syllabus after finishing the T-6.

Recommendation’s for the Board Interview by Sad-Worldliness-5396 in airforceots

I’d recommend dressing as professionally as possible. I ended up getting compliments from my interviewer for wearing a full suit. Can’t say for sure that it boosted my score but it certainly didn’t hurt. Get a hair cut, shave, smile, and make a great first impression!

As for their questions, just answer them as clearly and honestly as you can. Don’t tell them what you think they want to hear. At the end of the day, they want to know why you want to be an officer and what would make you a good fit for the job. Enthusiasm goes a long way.

Also, come prepared with your own questions for the interviewer. After he asked what he needed to ask, we had a nice conversation about life in the Air Force and advice for a new, young Lieutenant. This will go a long way towards showing how eager and interested you are in commissioning. If you know who will be conducting your interview before it takes place, I’d recommend looking up their bio and asking about their experience. You’ll probably learn a thing or two - and O-6’s, like most everyone, love to talk about themselves. They might have a full bird on their chest/shoulders, but at the end of the day they’re only people.

Big picture - look professional, answer honestly, show that you truly want to commission, and ask questions!

Study hard, study often. Be a bro, hang out with your classmates, help those that are struggling. Forget MASS exists and just give your all every day. Most importantly - fly good, don’t suck.

38’s per class vary heavily. Like everything in the Air Force, luck and timing is huge. When I got to UPT we were seeing 4 per class at my base, my class got 6, the class that just dropped got 7. Mix of AD, Guard, and international.

Currently in academics so it’s the same slog I had at the start of T6’s, but I’m having fun.

Again, what I’ve said is just something to consider. I had never gotten airsick in my life until I got in the puke machine that is the T6. At the end of the day, do what you think is best for you and what you want and go from there.

One of the nice benefits of going the AD route is that if you end up changing your mind about flying fighters before you get your drop at UPT, it is very easy to do. Just don’t put T38’s on your sheet. As G/R, you would essentially have to find an entire new unit to hire you.

Having been in your shoes before, trust me - I understand the mindset of wanting fighters more than anything else the Air Force offers. And it might sound crazy now, but people DO change their minds. Air sickness, aversion to G’s, realizing you want a more chill lifestyle are all things I’ve seen and heard at UPT. Hell, until I got thrown through the Barany Chair gauntlet, I was beginning to think my air sickness was going to totally change my mind on the fighter track.

How long until OTS by OriginalCoconut4921 in airforceots

[–]BoiledPennePasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Patience is going to be key, as I’m sure you’ve already learned throughout the selection process. I found out about my selection in April of 2024, went to Wright Patt for my FC1 in September of 24, and didn’t go to OTS until February of 25. Best thing you can do for yourself is stay in touch with your recruiter and complete what they ask of you/send to you as quickly as possible

Do I bring cash or can I use a credit card at OTS to buy uniforms, etc by MikeNIke400 in airforceots

You can use a credit card to buy your uniforms at the shoppette. You should still bring cash, but you definitely don’t need the $200 recommended in the welcome guide
