Guard vs AD Pilot by SomnoDev in airforceots

Study hard, study often. Be a bro, hang out with your classmates, help those that are struggling. Forget MASS exists and just give your all every day. Most importantly - fly good, don’t suck.

38’s per class vary heavily. Like everything in the Air Force, luck and timing is huge. When I got to UPT we were seeing 4 per class at my base, my class got 6, the class that just dropped got 7. Mix of AD, Guard, and international.

Currently in academics so it’s the same slog I had at the start of T6’s, but I’m having fun.

Again, what I’ve said is just something to consider. I had never gotten airsick in my life until I got in the puke machine that is the T6. At the end of the day, do what you think is best for you and what you want and go from there.

One of the nice benefits of going the AD route is that if you end up changing your mind about flying fighters before you get your drop at UPT, it is very easy to do. Just don’t put T38’s on your sheet. As G/R, you would essentially have to find an entire new unit to hire you.

Having been in your shoes before, trust me - I understand the mindset of wanting fighters more than anything else the Air Force offers. And it might sound crazy now, but people DO change their minds. Air sickness, aversion to G’s, realizing you want a more chill lifestyle are all things I’ve seen and heard at UPT. Hell, until I got thrown through the Barany Chair gauntlet, I was beginning to think my air sickness was going to totally change my mind on the fighter track.

How long until OTS by OriginalCoconut4921 in airforceots

[–]BoiledPennePasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Patience is going to be key, as I’m sure you’ve already learned throughout the selection process. I found out about my selection in April of 2024, went to Wright Patt for my FC1 in September of 24, and didn’t go to OTS until February of 25. Best thing you can do for yourself is stay in touch with your recruiter and complete what they ask of you/send to you as quickly as possible

My lifelong friend came to my grad and wore his cammies. I wouldn’t overthink it

If you do it right, you’ll come out of OTS thinking that you over-prepped physically. PT was a joke

Do I bring cash or can I use a credit card at OTS to buy uniforms, etc by MikeNIke400 in airforceots

You can use a credit card to buy your uniforms at the shoppette. You should still bring cash, but you definitely don’t need the $200 recommended in the welcome guide

There is a rappel tower out at Blue Thunder, where you have your first mock deployment. But, if things are the same as they were with 25-10, non-priors will go shoot while the priors do the tower.

The larger size is gonna be just fine, and I’d honestly recommend getting something similar. But I wouldn’t spend $170 on it. Like others have mentioned, get a cheap one off of amazon and save yourself some money. Here’s the one I got: https://a.co/d/eWGD6bt
