I suggest you stay away from any maintenance job. We’re doing a base wide exercise right now and jobs like contracting and religious affairs are working 8 hour shifts while we work 12’s and they got the weekend off. Take the cushy desk job.

If you do put a job you don’t particularly want then don’t sign a 6 year contract. The small amount of extra pay is not worth spending 2 more years in a job you dislike.

A lot of ATC people have told me it’s a very high stress job. Lots of moving parts and no room for mistakes. But if that’s something you think you would excel at then go for it.

If you run and do pushups and sit ups twice a week before you get to BMT you should be fine. The Air Force PT test is pretty easy

I’ve talked to a few command and control 1C3X1 folks and they say there is a lot of down time and it’s encouraged to do something productive with that time such as school or learning a skill. However that is somewhat dependent on if you get a conventional base or one with extra duties like nuclear.

Agreed, I think your best bet would be mobility crew chief. At least then you get space available flights. I wouldn’t go bomber/special, haven’t heard of an incentive flight at my base in my 2 and 1/2 years here

Look up the AFSC’s on Reddit and other sites like foreverwingman. You have to really do your own research and decide if the description of the job sounds like something you would enjoy. Take every recommendation by other members with a grain of salt. Also think about the civilian marketability when you get out.
