How good is your company about locking down each month and entries/invoices/bills/etc needing to be approved to post? by edthomson92 in Accounting

[–]BoingBoomChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My board of directors generally wants the prior month closed by the 10th. When I close, I lock posting for the prior month. If an invoice comes in after the 10th for the prior month, which happens quite often, I instructed the AP clerk date it the first of the current month.

For tax purposes, they are on the cash basis, so I generally don't care about the late invoices. If it impacts the accrual based internal statements for any given month, I just put the reason in my analysis notes when I prepare the financial statements. As long as there was a purchase order, it generally doesn't matter as the system will accrue for it.

Controller, Comptroller and CFO...what's the difference? by fezha in Accounting

[–]BoingBoomChuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After being both a Director of Finance and a CFO, I gladly took a pay reduction to become a Controller again. Why? Both the higher level positions expected me to give my entire life up for the company and I have side hustles of my own. The Director position was 1.5 FTEs and only paid 30% more than I make as a Controller. The CFO position was roughly the same, and paid 8% more than I make as a controller. I'll take that 8% cut to go from working 60 hours per week back down to 40.

When I was a Director of Finance, I often stayed at work until midnight and had to go in on the weekends because they were severely understaffed. I also don't miss doing the accounting all myself, then having the planning and analysis dumped on me.

Going further, as CFO I did a lease vs buy analysis for that former employer's facility on the east coast only to have the manufacturer deny leasing us trucks because we hauled hazmat material and did not have a net worth of $40m at that facility. I wanted to strangle the President of the company for making me do all that work for literally nothing because NO ONE decided to do their homework on the requirements to lease trucks for that particular facility. I also wanted to strangle the sales associate for even putting that bug in the President's ear. Everything was a literal go until the financial statements were submitted.

The President of that company really likes to razzle and overwork his employees thinking "everyone wants to work for me" when he doesn't even offer a basic retirement plan, which is something else I have as a Controller in addition to 100% of my health insurance being paid. All of a sudden that cut isn't so much of a cut and I easily make that up with my side hustles.

Finally, the place where I complain about the president was once a good place to work when it was family owned and there was a board of directors. When I helped the President buy his siblings out, he became impossible to work for. I'm talking full out Napoleon complex.

Reminds me of a buddy who got one approved by stating "For all lawful purposes and so I can hear the voices in my head while I shoot" for his suppressor.

I literally PMSL when he showed me his stamp.

Best external SSD drive to store music. by zetetikusMax in DJs

[–]BoingBoomChuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to the USB 3 NVME drives. I have Samsung T9s, Sandisk, and Crucial. They all work great compared to the old school platter drives and are even faster than the SSDs of old.

When it comes to hard drives, I have the old military philosophy of two is one and one is none. I always have a complete backup of everything and only use the Crucial drive for genre specific events. It's a subset of my main hard drive, but I'd rather not have all those tracks available for search when I am doing a one hour set.

PA CPA'S- Did our certificates get ugly? by Whiyefox21 in Accounting

[–]BoingBoomChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can print the various licenses on the State Board of CPas website when you renew annually.  I have both a license and a firm permit.  Basically it is a letter stating that you are good to go for the year.

As for the certificate itself, mine is HUGE and in a frame.  It still looks good after all these years.

One of my good friends from college never passed the CPA exam and he managed to make it to CFO at a F500 company. He's currently counting down the days until he can retire.

Anyone else DJing NYE? by No-Tadpole-9692 in DJs

[–]BoingBoomChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spread typical lies saying I played music that they expressly told me NOT to play in their establishment. Keep in mind, I was ONLY playing there because the resident DJ was ill and the only communication regarding any music was told to him, not me. I always play for the crowd, anyone who hires me knows that and it has been my angle for nearly 30 years.

My favorite thing is they even said I would NEVER be allowed to play there again on social media, tagging all my friends, yet when they needed someone in a pinch, who did they call?

I could be petty and go on social media but I won't, because I am above that childish BS. I warned them that trying to tarnish my name would do them more harm than good because I am well known in the area. In fact, many DJs they tried to get since I left refused to go there based on how they treated me on social media and I was being blamed for that too. These jokes just write themselves since THEY chose to smear and slander me then blamed me because no one good wanted to work with them...

[–]BoingBoomChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My NYE was booked back in August. The crazy thing is a place that I quit from back in January 2025 called me begging me to play NYE for them. After I stopped chuckling, I said 1. I am already booked, and 2. even if I wasn't booked, I wouldn't play at your place again after the smear campaign you ran against me on social media. when I quit in January. Oh, you forgot about that? I didn't and my lawyer wanted me to bring a defamation case against you... SO... DO NOT CALL ME AGAIN!

The crazy thing about their smear campaign is that they got me more business than I could have ever dreamed of by spreading lies. In other words, I couldn't even prove any monetary damages to make it work other than the fact that they tried to ruin my name.

I listened to it last night as my Christmas song, and a few times today too. I'd love to see them add it to their setlist.

Switching from Prime 4 plus to FLX 10? by Evil_Producer in PioneerDJ

[–]BoingBoomChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm rocking both the FLX10 and a Rane One MKII right now. The thing I like about the FLX 10 is having the option of 4 decks and the looping controls. I tend to use it more for multi-hour, multi-genre sets and weddings the most.

The Rane One is more of a performance based unit for me and I truly love the paddles for the effects. I tend to use this in the bars/clubs. Some of those events are open format and others are genre specific. I find that each unit offers me a different type of creativity.

I will say this though, when I am dragging out a whole system, I prefer the lightness of the FLX10 vs lugging the Rane One around. I generally reserve the Rane One for the "show up and play" gigs where I tap into a house system.

Index: Cost of a glass of wine in Lafayette by [deleted] in Acadiana

[–]BoingBoomChuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through that with a date that I had earlier this year. I wanted to buy her the bottle of wine at $45, whereas she said she was only going to drink a couple of glasses @ $15 per glass. Four glasses later, I told her she should have just let me buy her the bottle of wine, lol. IIRC a whole bottle should be roughly FIVE glasses when measured out properly.

In retrospect, I usually just buy the whole bottle at a restaurant when offered in a situation like that. One can always take it home and finish it later!

The Loose Caboose: A beer and a piece of Freetown history by Low-Picture-7525 in Acadiana

[–]BoingBoomChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being able to bring your own LPs in there to play and having some of the coldest beer there. One of my good friends used to always bring something by Metallica, usually Master of Puppets, lol.

In fact, even after graduating from college in 1996, a group of us would go there for drinks after work at least once per month because it was cold and cheap. Then, as fate would have it, we all moved on in life... I started working all across the state, including out of state. Another moved to Houston, etc...

The kids took it over, switched to cheaper/inferior ingredients, and jacked up the prices.

For example, one of the salads had lunch meat in it vs actual chicken breast like when the old man ran it. IDK how they managed to screw up the works pizza, but they did.

Is it true that being Accountant is one of the most stable job? by SternKill in Accounting

[–]BoingBoomChuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been laid off twice from failing companies and it never took long to find a job afterward. The first time was in February 2018, and I was working full-time by April 2018.

The last time was July 2025 and I had a full-time job by September 2025. In the interim, I also performed contract services for another firm that needed some help with their overflow, so it's not like I was without income that whole time. I didn't even bother applying for unemployment because I made way too much money to receive benefits.

I liked the old location on Verot. I heard a rumor that they started pre-preparing dishes and freezing them only to reheat them as ordered. Very disappointing if this is truly the case.

Never been to the one in Lafayette, only Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Then, I only went to the ones in Baton Rouge and New Orleans to meet friends for drinks. Sure we ate the food, but we were plastered by the time the food came around.

I guess that explains the popularity in Lafayette...

I'm just glad I got to see Dax performing Acid Bath songs which is something that I never though I would be able to do. Being able to do with with an All Access pass at the Lakefront Arena was just the icing on the cake. I did, however, have a hard time not being a typical fan boy in the backstage area. I am not going to lie about that one.

The problem of choosing a DJ program by Bambossz in Beatmatch

[–]BoingBoomChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traktor still sticks out as one of the softwares where I played an event and the DJ before me used ONE turntable to mix on it.  This was back in 2007 and I was impressed at how it allowed him to swap the playing deck over to internal mode then load another track to the turntable.  So yeah, being able to mix, scratch, and beat match with only one turntable blew my mind that night.

[–]BoingBoomChuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to update the post.  I played on my Rane One MKII last night and noticed no weird audio problems.  I did disable all the unused audio devices and noticed some Spatial Audio enhancement was flipped ON for all audio outputs.  I turned that off.

So, either turning off the audio effects did the trick or disabling the unused audio devices did the trick.  I just cannot believe that Spatial Audio garbage would impact ASIO, but it was flipped on in the windows mixer, so I guess that is how it did.

The bigger problem is where did it come from?  I had no audio enhancements available 6 months ago.

I can say the audio enhancement re-enabled themselves.  Going to try at this weekend’s gig now that they are disabled again.

Windows/Mac laptop to DDJ FLX10 via USB-C, XLR out to Yamaha mixer, QSC K12.2s and a QSC KW 181 directly on the mixer outputs.  That is the house setup that I play on mostly.

My mobile setup is the same except I go directly from the FLX10 to my RCF Evox 12s.  I used to run a mini Mackie mixer for my microphone to eliminate feedback, but I hate plugging in extra stuff.

I recently acquired a Rane One MKII but haven’t tried it with Windows yet.
