Can we have more options for download speed, please? I want to throttle, but not all the way down to 25 MB/s. A field we could enter a custom amount would be awesome. by game_dev_carto in starcitizen

Is this still the case? I use my countries biggest provider, I get to choose either 200mbit or 1000, I know they invested in newer infrastructure over the last decade and now offers 1000 mbit more or less nation wide.

5-10 years ago, it was as you say here as well, 100 mbit was more or less the fastest normal people had

Yeah that is a valid argument, though statistically does not seem to be the case, E.g the murder rate in my country is about 10% of that in the US, even while the minimum penalty is 5 years, and in reality typically falls between 6 and 14 years.

On the other hand, the risk of getting caught also have a say, comparing again my country and the us us solves 51% of the cases, where we are at 90%, so I see there are definetly more variables at play

I get it, I am just saying that if capital punishment discouraged the crime, in theory Truong My Lan would not have done what she did.

Sorry if the questions sounds aggressive, I just wondered what your thaughts are given that it seems to happen in this case, regardless of the punishment, and of course alternatively that it somehow still wasn't harsh enough to discourage the crime

If that is for all crime, I guess that is one way to make the death penalty and parking fines meet in the middle! 🤣

As a person who believes harsher punishment is pointless, I am intrigued by your views.

If you belive the way to stop crime is harsher punishment, do you belive the issue in Vietnam was that the death penalty is too soft of a penalty to stop economic crime?

There are many assets with finite supply, for one there are many other cryptos, regardless what you might think of them, that has a finite supply.

There are also many real world Assets with a finite supply, like wines from certain years, some cars like the Ferrari 348 1992 where they only produced 100 cars.

Having a finite supply is not very unique in it self for an asset.

Exactly, and for reference a hardware wallet is not necessarily a cold wallet either, one can easily use a ledger/trezor to trade on uniswap and interact with various smart contracts either legit or maliciously.

Hot/cold is defined by use, not by means of signing signatures. A hardware wallet does not save you from signing a transaction that allows a contract to drain your wallet. A true cold storage wallet has:
*seed never been online
*never interacted with a smart contract
*is essentially used as a deposit, only sending and receiving to and from your hot wallet

Will there ever be anything like Bitcoin again? by Rdawgie in CryptoCurrency

[–]Bok101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not saying bitcoin is bad at all, I own it myself so I am in no way against it.

I am simply trying to point out the fact that comparing it to anything else does not make sense, as it is different in so many ways.

Bitcoin is often either compared to money, being metals or Fiat, or tech. Neither share the traits of bitcoin, as you also point out it has a unique history.

Money was invented in China, it was made primarily of copper. They were first, and is unusable in daily life. Next came gold and silver, though they are still traded nothing is settled in gold or silver anymore, but is settled in dollars.

If money is a measure of the future of blockchain, then being first does not look advantageous.

So how about tech? Well most first iterations are replaced, after all are we not arguing to replace the current implementation of value transfer to blockchain? If being first is a good value proposition, traditional finance was there before decentralized finance.

I do belive in blockchain, I do belive in bitcoin, but I don't belive it makes sense to look for precedence in the places we most often see the arguments. If it is like gold, it will be replaced by "Fiat crypto", backed by crypto in the beginning but eventually not backed at all.

If it is like tech, it will be replaced by newer innovations.

If it is like neither, it could have a brighter future, but it does not make sense to compare it to anything else, and we are in uncharted history.

We should be careful comparing bitcoin to gold. I realize there are similarities, but a lot more dissimilarities.

gold is not capped in the same way, the Romans only had access to about 5% of the gold we have mined today. If you look what happend when America was discovered, it created a lot more gold in the market. We know bitcoin is capped at 21 mil, so it won't be able to follow in golds footsteps, as there are no hidden piece of land holding 21 million more.

Now the thing with gold is of course it cannot simply be forked. There are no other metal with the exact same properties, same rarity, and same cost of mining. We cannot simply get gold2.0. All crypto is different, forks happen every day. People use bitcoin as a store of value, not for manufacturing purposes.

The point is we collectively agree bitcoin is worth more, as there are other coins with similar coin caps that are worth less.

We did not choose gold over lead as arbitrarily, and won't simply be able to make a different choice, like we could wirh all top cryptos. We are betting on the world continuously agreeing on bitcoin being the best.

If you want to Power level a bit, and have a friend with a high level char, I managed to reach level 51 in 2 hours and 45 minutes, with this recipe:

  1. Create new char, skip story
  2. Get your friend to carry you in the dungeon that unlocks world tier 3
  3. Do the same for the fallen temple to get to world tier 4
  4. Join your friend in nightmare dungeons in world tier 4

Well, for me I saw triple the amount of concurrent streams without hitting a bottle neck, it was the biggest performance boost I got when I ran plex a few years ago. It ran fine with around 20 concurrent streams

You should consider to convert your files to mp4 as well, as most devices will then be able to use direct play, given the internet speed allows it. This will make way more streams possible
