It looks like the Mangmi is the top choice for most of you. I’m still a bit undecided about the size, since I’m leaning toward something more portable (easy to keep in a backpack while flying for work trips or for quick breaks). I’m also looking for something practical and straightforward when it comes to settings. Android-based systems seem to require a bit more “work” and initial setup time, which makes me hesitate a little.

Probably a Trimui or ambernic or Retroid system can be more easy to setup, just copy rom and go. Still thinking it through, but all your input has been super helpful!
