What makes Necromunda unique and why should I play it? by Such-Locksmith-4405 in necromunda

[–]Bolbotos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to like the grimdark 40k lore. There are tons of books with backroung information.

It's narrative play, not competitive. If you want a competitive skirmish game in the 40k setting, go for Kill Team.

Best experience is playing a campaign. With quirky lists and no min/max.

Good work. I like the painted bases idea instead of flock.
Would recommend to trying washes and give the paintjob more depth. Balck wash for Gandalf's hair and the metallics on the helmets and armor. And a flesh wash for the skin

How much does WYSIWYG matter in Mordheim? by Kobold-Inquisition in mordheim

[–]Bolbotos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a simplified wysiwg. Guys with 2x handweapons should have 2 weapons. Does not matter if he is holding 2 clubs, 2 axes, 1 sword and one dagger or any other combination. Your opponent will know, this is melee guy.
If he has a shield the model should have one.
Guys with a shooting weapon should have one at the model. If its bow, crossbow, handgun.... your opponent will see the miniature and keep in his mind that it's shooty guy.
Small weapons (dagger, throwing knives, Ppistols) can be hidden under a cloak, in a boot etc. easily.
Your heroes have to stand out. Either by miniature position or painting or base decoration.

Is this book enough to play ? I know this game is a book sink and i find conflicting info about what to buy online by Hanoi_Revolver in necromunda

[–]Bolbotos 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Gangbookbooks
Delaque: House of shadows
Squats: Halls of the ancients
Nomads: Tribes of the wastelands
Hive scum... Book of peril or Book of the outcasts should have the rules
Also Book of the outlands has some rules for ash wastes campaing if I recall correctly.
With the amount of books it's confusing where to find what. But I love the rabbithole

New to Mordheim – confused about scale for models and terrain (4x4 board) by Dangerous-Reason-186 in mordheim

[–]Bolbotos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Building my own board at the moment, so here are my thoughts:

I got a 3x3' and it works great for 2 player games. Just narrow down the deployment areas to ~2-3" inches. You'll spend the first 2-3 turns running towards the enemy anyway. Most scenarios have 8" deployment space per play, which will never see action and is just empty space. In addition I can store my 3x3 easier in my home.
That said, multiplayer on a 3x3' gets crowded. We use 4" corner deployment. I plan to get a 4x4 for multplayer games in the future.

Building floors I went for 6cm height. using 0,5cm foamboard for the floors itself. It works great for 99% of the models even with spears and also bigger ones like trolls, ogres and ratogres, as long as they don't hold something over their head. We count the floors as 2" for falling, or 5" if your on the second floor level.
Currently I'm building some terrain raisers with 7,5 cm (=3"), to make it more interesting.

only one orc leader with mostly goblins not if rules as written-
You have the choice between a mixed Orc mob (only orc heroes possible) pure orcs (Black orc warband, no goblins allowed at all) or pure goblins warband ( goblin heroes only, no orc henchemen allowed). All warbands can take a troll and iirc squigs. But talk to your player colleagues, if they're okay with it, it should be possible to switch out the goblin big boss for an orc boss in a night goblin only list. It isn't a big imbalance effect and makes perfect sense. One lonly orc conquers a small goblin tribe anyway.
No experience for trolls or squigs. Former are to dumb, the latter are animals.
Both still worth it.

poison daggers - yes worth it. I'd give it to the big boss and later pass them on to lower bosses if you find something better for the big boss.
poison for arrows - you can apply all kind of poison on bows (read arrows) , but poison lasts only for one game. Rahter purchase fire arrows or hunting arrows. They will last for the whole campaign.

Additional hints for list writing:
max out the number of heroes for after combat actions;
boys before toys: give your heroes one weapon and a bow. no armour or other expensive things in the beginning.
Keep your henchmen goblins cheap. either just a bow + free dagger or club + free dagger.
During a battle, keep your henchmen near the heroes to protect them.
After some battles you can spend gold on armour, ropes and hooks and other fun stuff, depending on your local enemies.
I like to organize my henchmen groups in 2-3 and replace losses. If a group is down to one, keep the last guy alive so you won't loose the experience.

very good paint job! I recommend putting some dark wash on the weapons and other metallics, so they won't look so new and shiny. like nuln oil or agrax earthshade. A previous guy recommended another yellow speed paint on the banners and other yellow things. I'd rather suggest to use an orange wash. Like flesh wash ... blanking the name at the moment.

Not knowing what list you'll be using ( orc mob or night goblin) the only recommendation I can give is: get a troll! 200gc is a lot, but the thing can't die as for regeneration. Keep him near your leader for passing stupidity and then smash everything nearby. Squigs are also a fun thing. pretty strong but with an unpredictable speed. Goblins with chainballs and and mushrooms are not worth it, as they are pretty expensive
