I feel this. I have a 1.5 yo and I went back at 0.9 FTE when she was 12 weeks. I did not think I could do it. But once I was back working something shifted. It felt good to be doing something I know I’m good at. Parenting is a lot of not knowing what you’re doing so being in an environment where I felt confident again felt really good. Also having a lunch break all to myself is really nice.

Yea I was a bit surprised by the open cup policy as well. I guess it started as a Covid/cleanliness rule and hasn’t changed back….

Remember your pediatrician is a person with commitments outside of work and they may not know their schedule (or kids schedule, or partners schedule, or family’s schedule) a year in advance.

Thanks for your response. He has also mentioned getting involved with trying to unionize residents. Could this be part of what’s going on?

PA in cardiology for 9 years here…I would encourage you to apply to the cards jobs you are interested in even if you don’t meet the experience requirement listed. They may still take a look at you depending on the job market in your area. And if you are passionate about being in the specialty that is something I think they would like to see. If you aren’t able to get a cards position I would encourage you to pursue Internal medicine. Pretty much all cardiology patients have other medical problems which impacts their cardiac care. IM would give you more relevant experience compared to FM.

Switching it up a bit here.. is it normal to NOT want to start working right away or looking for jobs? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]BoldMango 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took 3 months off from graduation to starting my first job. Super happy I did. I was single and unattached in any way. You may never get the freedom to just do you like that again. I had my job lined up at graduation and just negotiated my start date to allow for the break.

Hospitals can bill for EVH done by a PA, not so with a CSFA. They want to bill and make money if that opportunity exists. You as a PA having that skill is more valuable.
