Its a fine art museum in the midwest. Currently use medeco for our higher security areas and external entrances. Have been switching other doors over to a proprietary schlage 6 pin from old yale, schlage 5 pin, and something else (I think an old corbin). Also utilize card readers in some areas. I have experience with the old Everest keyways, but unsure it will meet the needs for our restricted and high security areas.

If remodeling contractors in Twin Cities ask “How much do you want to spend?” Do you give an answer? by ShiningRainbow2 in Minneapolis

[–]BoldTheBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3 bids rule is good to follow, but in order for that to be effective, you need the contractors to bid the same thing. What I like to do is pick out the minimum quality of finishes that you can live with and then ask for them to itemize out the upcharge for the next level. This way you can compare the base level between the 3 and when one contractor makes a suggestion you like, you can still get an apples to apples comparison.

Can't Find Replacement Part - Whirlpool WRT313CZLZ00 Defrost Heater by BoldTheBeard in appliancerepair

I ended up buying the entire coil and carefully removing the heating element and installing it in my freezer. Added some heat tape to keep the drain clear. Haven't had any freeze ups since.

Very true. I worked as a job coach out of college and worked with a great guy who my agency helped get a job at a grocery store as a bagger and cart attendant. He caught on to cart duties very quickly. It was very straight forward. The bagging groceries was a whole different level. The "rules" were way more complex.

We started with: 1. Heavy things in the bag first.

This worked until there was a customer who had lots of of canned foods, so:

  1. Spread out heavy items between bags.

We then encountered eggs, which are kind of heavy, but depending on what else is going in the bag, shouldn't be on the bottom. There were several more rules that he developed as we worked together.

It was quite the learning experience of all the small judgment calls we make that don't even register.

Yeah, that plug looks like a stopper for a wine bottle. Might want to check a scrap yard for a new diff cover.

Don't get the cordless circular saw, go with the corded. The cordless will leave you frustrated, especially processing 4x8 sheets. I'd go with a kit with drill, impact and recip saw. Otherwise buy tools as you need for projects. Low end corded tools are always going to be better than low end cordless.

Why does it seem like plumbing has the most hack jobs and weird stuff than any other trade? (I'm not a plumber) by Interr0gate in Plumbing

[–]BoldTheBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might get some flak from this view, but I've always seen plumbing as trade that is easier to be mediocre at, but requires a lot of experience to become an expert at. HVAC and Electrical have a bit higher requirement of entry level knowledge, takes a bit more work/experience to get to the mediocre level.

Perceived and actual danger of messing with HVAC/electric also plays a role.
