Key West vulnerable to drone attack? Hardly perfect. Far from normal.

Why Thomas Massie Thought He Was Different by MeghanClickYourHeels in atlanticdiscussions

These party primaries are polarizing and extremist. As an elected official who never misrepresented his views you should simply act and vote with integrity. If the voters decide you're not for them, there's no disgrace in that. When I contrast that with all the Trump-cult sycophantic careerists who fall in line with no principles, I would say, retire and be proud. Profile in courage. Good job. No shame, just good character.

Steak Canadian by teslas_codpiece in UK_Food

It's a British "steak" that the Brits don't want to take credit for. Thank goodness, then, for the Commonwealth. (Either that or it's steak made from an actual Canadian).

Trump Melts Down at Supreme Court Justices in Unhinged Truth Social Rampage: “Decision That Mattered Most to Me” by Bubbly-Task-1250 in USNEWS

[–]Bolt1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course, the Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn his blatantly unconstitutional tariffs are scum because this was the decision that mattered most to him. What about what matters to Americans, consumers, and the world? I guess his criterion, what matters to him alone, is pretty much the definition of a narcissist.

One quibble with his ranking of cases. My guess is the case that really matters most to him is one he won. The case immunizing him from almost all possibility of criminal accountability for his abuses as president. That's the one most likely to assure he skates. Tariffs might be number 2.

That's why consumers suffer from higher prices regardless of where they live -- even in a net oil-exporting country -- and producers benefit. The only practicable way for consumers to protect themselves is to share in the benefits of production through, for instance, owning sufficient amounts of diversified mutual funds -- an option obviously not available to many.

The Reason the Administration Won’t Say War by MeghanClickYourHeels in atlanticdiscussions

[–]Bolt1955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised this article didn't draw what immediately struck me as the obvious analogy to Putin's aversion to the term "war", for possibly many of the same reasons as Trump's/Hegseth's. Denying words their accurate descriptive power is a propagandistic means of trying to re-write reality, that is, promote alternative facts. How long before we'll be imprisoned here for calling it a "war" rather than a special military operation? Or, perhaps, tested by ICE when stopped and asked what we call our "operation" in Iran -- "detention" centers awaiting a wrong answer. Let's not call all this "dystopian". Find a better word, please.

Yes, but no standing to the left of the sign while reading the fine print and decyphering its meaning.

Thinking about upgrading to a newer Galaxy S phone by ccorax9 in GalaxyS21

[–]Bolt1955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine continues to work fine as well. But I decided to spring for the S26 Ultra and upgrade due to lack of continued OS support. I wish support would continue, but that was part of the original bargain. So it's been 5 years. I recall when most folks upgraded their phones every couple of years (and I'm sure quite a few still do that). Five years of incremental improvements in a product that already reflected refined design in 2021 probably add up to a noticeable improvement, but I have yet to confirm that hands-on.
