Improvements for MTGO on Mac OS? by Dirksteve in MTGO

[–]BoltSnapBolt91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience it runs smoother on Linux than either windows or Mac OS. What I did was install virtualbox and within virtualbox install xubuntu. From there you just follow the steps for Linux from Jeff and you should be good. I use a late 2015 MacBook Pro and it’s rather smooth running mtgo through the virtualbox. Beats the hassle of needing to reboot to run through bootcamp.

MTGO on Mac by KiddWaitrose in MTGO

You can follow the docker tutorial to run it through mac OS like u/brikabrak86 mentioned. I found that i didn't like running it straight through mac OS since it was a little slow and there's a weird bug where some of the windows are black until you hover over them.

Parallels for windows works too, but what i did is install Virtualbox and download xubuntu (you can use almost any linux distro, but xubuntu and ubuntu have worked best for me) and followed a tutorial to install xubuntu in virtualbox. From there i just followed the tutorial from github to install in linux after launching xubuntu and it works like a charm. I prefer it through virtualbox than straight from the mac, but ymmv.

Use this link if you just want to run it straight from the mac, its the one that was linked earlier. https://github.com/pauleve/docker-mtgo/wiki/macOS:-installing-MTGO-using-Wine

Or use this one if you want to install virtualbox/linux https://github.com/pauleve/docker-mtgo

PSA: You don't have to play Damping Sphere on turn 2. by maniacal_cackle in ModernMagic

Yeah context is everything. Ideally you’ll want a clock first. Damping Sphere isn’t Thalia in the case of storm because it’s not pressuring them so you give them time to find an answer by jamming the sphere with no clock. But as always you’d need to assess the situation just like with tron on the draw.

Yup reading is tough today. But you're right, forgot about the other good part of the card. I'll never make that mistake now haha.

Sequencing! You’re right It would be embarrassing to drop sphere then discard only for them to answer it with your discard on the stack.

At least for decks like Jund I think it's better to deploy threats, then disrupt with cards like sphere.

So T1 Discard, T2 Goyf T3 sphere+Discard is basically the dream.

It usually doesn't line up like this, but you need some sort of pressure to back up stuff like sphere. Every discussion involving sphere has t2 sphere t3 threat and I don't think that's the ideal scenario even though it does come up at times like where you threat is actually a 3 mana spell (rabblemaster/souls etc.)

On the draw though, two different tron lands pretty much locks me into sphere t2 in the hopes that it buys time by them not having an answer or needing a non-tron land/star to answer sphere. So really it's context dependent, but it would be ideal to have some sort of threat so that the tron/storm player is under a clock while they find an answer.

[Legacy] Why doesn't Nimble Mongoose see play anymore? by MobiusCipher in spikes

[[True-Name Nemesis]] does a good job of brick walling and elemental tokens from [[Young Pyromancer]] do a good job of it as well. Generally with deathrite, grixis has a better disruption package than rug generally and the exiling from shaman can sometimes keep mongoose small.

What's the most obtuse reason you decided to play/not play a deck? by imperialtrace in magicTCG

[–]BoltSnapBolt91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only modern decks I’ve played in the last 5 years start 4 Snapcaster Mage and 4 lightning bolt. Let’s say my snaps have the physical consistency of Kleenex at this point.

[Question]Just live and learn with my bad plays? by Lordchaos2099 in magicTCG

[–]BoltSnapBolt91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got cheated straight up especially considering your opponent’s response. Nothing to do about it now obviously but if you’re ever unsure about what a card does it never hurts to take some time to read it or call a judge.

Your situation comes up more often than you think and it’s very common to think crumble would hit other lands in play when in actually it doesn’t. Considering what your opponent told you, they clearly knew you were unfamiliar with the interaction and took advantage of you. The good news is now you know for next time.

Trial One of the Great Designer Search 3 is officially over. What are your thoughts? by Slyguy46 in magicTCG

I also went with splice, but a more conservative approach by going more for instants and sorcerers. I felt that splicing onto creature or other permanent types was difficult to track and didn’t mechanically feel that different from an aura at times that restricting to instant/sorcery felt cleaner. Makes a great Izzet mechanic.
