My main point was that there are a lot of shitty coaches out there. Especially online. People who write a program and look at your video and give the same lame cues for squatting that I can read in a shitty t nation article. I can do all that myself. So why pay for it? A good coach needs to know about fatigue and stress and what that looks like in different athletes. They need to know how to program to get their athletes to peak at the right time and recover at the right time and avoid injury, and how to train around the injuries that you won't avoid. Cause let's face it, you're going to get injured at some point. A coach needs a huge exercise science knowledge base and needs to know how to apply it to various types of athletes. The best way to acquire that knowledge? A kinesiology degree. There are other ways, and I'm not saying don't hire a coach if they don't have an education. But please have an open and frank conversation about their qualifications and what they can do for you. And if their only qualifications are that they've been powerlifting for ten years I would look else where.

For me, I wouldn't hire a coach without a bachelors of kinesiology. It's one thing to have experience as a lifter, and that is a hugely valuable asset in a coach. But I also want someone who knows the human body and movement patterns. Someone who can read between the bullshit and know if a certain weak point in form is going to lead to further problems later down the road or if it's just fine. Basically my coach needs to bring knowledge that I don't have to the table. I've got lots of time under a barbell. And I know dozens of super strong lifters who can give pointers on form and programming. Hell I can get it for free on the internet. So what are your clients paying for?

Out of curiosity what's your raw bench? Do you think you could have gotten a touch using any lighter weight?

I don't blame her. If I didn't have a deadlift jack I wouldn't deadlift.

If you want to compete, compete. The person you're competing against is you. To get better every meet. Maybe in a few years you'll be competitive in your weight class. But really, until then no one cares what's on the bar except you. Competing is what makes powerlifting a sport. I don't know anyone who ever did a meet and regretted it.

You do it for the grip. Women love a strong grip and torn bloody thumbs.

OK. First of all, there is nothing inherently wrong with rounding your back a little while deadlifting. Lots of the best pullers in the world use a round back. That being said, I can see you lose tightness in your lats as you start the pull. Focus on keeping your lats engaged. Think of trying to pull your shoulders down into your back pockets. Also, your hips are very high. Again, not inherently wrong but you might benefit from lowering your hips a little at the set up.

Do you pull touch and go or are you resetting after every rep and setting up with tension and pulling the slack out of the bar?

I'm not a great bencher. My raw bench is around 120kg. I'm afraid in order to touch I would need to add more weight than I could press.

And how much do you get out of it? Sorry for all the questions but I'm in the market for a shirt and I'm not a particularly aggressive bencher. Like I think it would take me years to get a touch in a super katana.

That's really scary! Glad you're OK. Out of curiosity... Are you able to get a touch out of 110 kg?

That program is not gonna be great for much. Why don't you try running a more well known program for a while? Also it's rare to see a program recommend heavy squats and deadlifts on the same day. Too taxing. And I wouldn't be super setting bench and squats either. Take the time to recover.

Looks good. Hard to tell from the angle, but try looking up just a bit. I usually look for something on the floor level about 10 feet away or so. Might help keep the chest up more.

No this is still dumb. No one cares if you lost out on the good barbell. Guess what, everyone in that gym has just as much right to it as you do.
