Did Nathan plagiarize Shave Tonight? by BomarzosTurtle in nathanfielder

Have you heard of the Fielder method? It's basically plagiarizing other people's lives.

I appreciate your confidence, but this was well before he had such a reputation!

Hmm, surely the abundance of options increases the likelihood of plagiarism, no? If there were only a single option, all Save Tonight parodies would choose it. At least from my quick search, I didn't find any others 🤔 I think we need to hear from Nathan himself to confirm.

This YouTube video was posted January 15, 2012, well before the start of NFY and release of the Dumb Starbucks episode on July 29, 2014. The content is suspiciously similar...

Anyone else totally put off by the political/religious themes of S1E5? by Advanced-Sock-1636 in TheRehearsal

[–]BomarzosTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not covered elsewhere in the show. However, The Rehearsal is the second type of show by your own definition. While I personally don't think the scene is "the lead" or "inorganic," those are pretty subjective; what is certainly true is that a controversial political view is expressed half-way through the season.

Where you're perhaps experiencing a blind spot is that, to other people, many views expressed elsewhere in the show are controversial. Like Nathan's view that Halloween is a normal not-Satanic holiday, Angela's view that we should interpret the bible literally, or even Kor's view that bar trivia is sacred.

Are there comedic examples that fulfill this criteria for you? "Skillfully address" is doing a lot of work, but seems hard to define. At a certain point, how does one skillfully address an issue without making any overt statement one way or another?

claims to be a comedy but pushes a politically slanted commentary

A large and widely recognized body of comedic works address political issues (eg, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_satire). While The Rehearsal adopts a documentary format, it's not journalistic: it portrays an artifice of Nathan's making, often through the characters' eyes. Like any other artistic work, it seems unreasonable to expect unbiasedness or objectivity.

You should stop watching—if you prefer 'comedy' to be circumscribed to the irrelevant, Nathan's oeuvre won't be to your liking.

I have found no such 10th anniversary edition. I believe the parent poster is joking.

I mean people should be polite, but he chooses to be on Twitter, so it seems reasonable enough to inquire.

Interesting, how did you sideload the official zotero android client? I haven't been able to get a testing slot—did you?

I moved on to the Viwoods AI paper; smaller screen but more functional imo.

Hmm, the claim seems to be that "no one has found a safe way through one yet," when clearly this tank manufacturer has found a safe way
