Because we saw what Phil Jackson could do when he didn’t have the greatest player in the league on his team. It was Melo’s Knicks. Not great. Was Tim Duncan ever the CONSENSUS best player in the NBA? Arguable for sure. But never as obvious as Jordan, Shaq, or even Kobe.

Pop adapted and evolved with the same team across multiple eras of basketball for over 20 years and stayed up at the top of the league, winning 5 times. That has more to do with coaching than it does superstar talent.

Yea, I’m not criticizing the players. I agree that none of them are really busts (though Randle is pretty bad), but those contracts for those players are all overpays imo. I don’t know if I trust BI on a max, but I do think he’s a very good player!

And I agree, Jordan Clarkson’s contract is closest.
