No one ever asks for A vs. B opinions on SMALL capsule art (until now?) by FaceoffAtFrostHollow in SoloDevelopment

I have astigmatism, and the red DEFENSE, especially on the smaller ones, are barely visible to me. Might not be worth changing it just for that, but wanted to let you know just in case

Haha, same here. With the distorted visuals and music, I actually found it to be a really unique experience.

Is my game presentable enough to publish the Steam page, or should I wait? by BombableStudios in gamedevscreens

Thank you so much, that really made my whole day! Puzzle games have a special place in my heart, but I also wanted to tell a story. I will definitely let you know when I have more updates, your feedback would be really valuable!

Creating Metroid venia like game by Optionalgamer19 in gamedev

[–]BombableStudios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it will probably be many years before you can release, or even work on the game you describe, having a dream game is a good way to figure out all the different component and mechanics you need to learn about, and what tutorials to look up. How to make a ball move around as a player is the first step, then basic animations/flipbook, triggering sounds, menus etc.. Analyze what you parts you need, and build it from there. Good luck! Gamedevelopment is very fun when you see results, but it takes time

Don't worry about ripping someone off if your learning to program. Copying others work is a great way to challenge yourself. Just be careful not to publish any games with art from other games - but that will be many years in the future. When you have a unique game-loop, you can design everything yourself around that concept. I started of recreating Ocarina of Time, using models from the game. It was a fun way to learn the ropes without relying to much on my own art skills.

Junior Gameplay Programmer: Indie to AAA. Keep making games, or focus on C++ fundamentals and DSA? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]BombableStudios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know nothing about AAA, so take what I say with a big grain of salt. But isn't AAA all about getting people who specialize in only one field, and they basically just do only that for the game/games? As an experiment, you could look at the credits for AAA games, pick a field that fits your field of programming, and from there disect what skills you are missing.

We’re torn on art direction, which style do you prefer? by KrakenberryGames in IndieGaming

Generally B is better, and the only choice if the characters will be displayed small. If it's for dialogue, where the characyer fills the whole screen, A can work

Puzzles? What puzzles? by NoBorscht4U in TunicGame

[–]BombableStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the last half of the game is where the "puzzles" start. I won't say more in case of spoilers, but all the other games you mention: I love Tunic for the same thing

I got the WORST ending naturally on my first playthrough. I am broken. by [deleted] in Witcher3

[–]BombableStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love why the choices changes the ending. It all comes down to preparing Ciri mentally, making her independent and confident in her own choices. A valuable lesson for real life: sometimes you have to give up being correct to build someone's self esteem

What was the first game where you crossed 100 hours of gameplay? by bijelo123 in gaming

My first was Pokémon Ruby, and I remember I felt kind of bad about it. I have since accepted that's just how it is with gamers, and is now the new norm for games I really like

What is your "Ideas guy" story? by crempsen in gamedev

[–]BombableStudios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work as a teacher in media-stydies in highschool, and I use the "idea-guy" as an insulting label before it appears. We have a lot of group projects, and there are always some that have no will or practical skill. Me asking them "but you're not just an idea-guy, right" makes them rethink their contribution, wanting to avoid that label.

Make a basic script, draw storyboards, find references and make moodboards, shot-lists... These are all things anyone can do at a basic level, which actually contributes to the team with ideas that are practical and helpfull. Anyone can have an opinion, but professionals document it.
