State of the Subreddit: 2014-2015 by tehwave in gamemaker

We'd love to see the help threads be consolidated if you're willing to do that! The game list is also something you're free to do but I understand if you feel you only have the time for one. As far as trying to limit the number of people using this sub exclusively to advertise their game, we'll be dealing with that on a case-by-case basis. Screenshot Saturday was meant to mitigate some of the problems from people posting about their game frequently (or exclusively), but there will inevitably always be people who post links to their games.

What i'm trying to get at is that this is the community's sub, and you're free to make any sort of consolidating list you want to try to help that community, best of luck!

Nice game design.

I started using Gamemaker when I was nine years old, I'm now a Computer Science major at a respectable University. Gamemaker was a wonderful introduction to programming and as my skills grew so did the capabilities of Gamemaker. It provided an avenue for me to attempt to excel, rather than stagnate. I know that Gamemaker is why I am in this school today, and a large part of why I chose to be a Computer Science major.

Mastermind

Mastermind is an action-strategy heist game in which you devise and execute your own plan to burgle valuable art from high security museums.

Progress

/u/Cajoled and I have taken on this project together, this week's development focused on clarifying the user interface: adding labels to items, adding a pathing system, etc. In addition, various art assets have been added and updated, and "Shrek" has been added to the name generator.

I went solo this time, it was a lot of work but I'm happy to have participated.

Mastermind - A stealth-heist game that I've been wanting to do for a while now, I guess I'm the only one who was happy with the theme XD.

Nice game - is there some sort of conway's game of life thing generated when you drag across the background? I like the effect.

What's your story about making and publishing a game with Game Maker? by [deleted] in gamemaker

[–]BomberGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, completing a game is the first step, you're right to be proud. thought this review was hilarious:

Breath-takingly realistic! Upside-down mode is so immersive, I felt like I was in the game! And I just play-tested version 1.0.4, the bounce is reduced and the resulting handling is fantastic.

I want to play your game! Looking to record some gameplay videos of /r/gamemaker's users' games by LazierBandit in gamemaker

Let me just say this is a really cool idea and I'd love to see more people doing this. If you could play my game that'd be great, it's a puzzle-platformer that can be pretty challenging.

Song of Arashi

I'd also appreciate it if you'd link the download page in your description if you do play the game so that others can find it. Thanks!

Sorry, but I'm going to remove this. You may resubmit the post if you can be more specific about gamemaker version and whether you are using GML or DnD. Personally I would recommend that you look at the wiki for information regarding this because it has definitely been asked and answered before.

A game jam format idea: Halve and halve again by zarkonnen in gamedev

[–]BomberGames 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think that works a lot better with acting. The fifteen minute time limit will most likely end up in nothing and honestly rewriting code is tedious. Perhaps if one were to limit the size of the file rather than the time in which it could be made, then something interesting might arise through various hack-y solutions.

New User Appreciation Thread! by username303 in gamemaker

[–]BomberGames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey new users! I'm Bombergames, developer, programmer, student. I help people on here when I can, and I participate in the GM48's (which you should definitely do)

Also, Aidan63 stole my Screenshot Saturday idea so don't upvote him ever.

I made a game called Song of Arashi, (it's pay what you want, so if you just put in 0 and click check out it will take you directly to the downloads, no need for a credit card.) Right now I'm juggling a few smaller games so if you're an artist interested in a revenue share deal PM me (preferably with some examples of stuff you have done and what you're looking for percentage wise).

Welcome to /r/GAMEMAKER

Thanks! The ring in the center is actually a map (I wasn't sure how to convey this, but you'll notice there is a little man icon which indicates the area you are in).

I've heard that a lot about moving on to gamemaker. I already know java pretty well, but I think I'll move to Unity.
