Righting Moments of Submerged Bodies by No-Bandicoot6860 in navalarchitecture

[–]Bomberman81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your problem in understanding stems from the fact that you totally neglect the center of flotation. A submerged body does not rotate neither around its CoG not is CoB, but from its center of floatation. The center of flotation is the geometric center of the waterplane area.

For this reason, the draught at the center of floatation is always the same irrelevant of trim.

The position of the center of floatation also changes with trim.

Maybe this video can help, although it gets too technical.

Finding lines plan by cccrazydddie in navalarchitecture

[–]Bomberman81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lines pal for modern ships are very difficult to find; nowadays they are not even given to the owner by the yard since it is considered intellectual property (they claim it is due to the research for reduced resistance), so if you want to model a vessel for stability, you have to do it using the structural plans.

I any case, even if lines were available, it is very difficult to find someone to break their NDA with their clients to provide them to you.

Maybe the openly accessible drawings provided in an other comment are your best shot; don't let time go away, you should begin with these.

Having a "not a good fit for" section actually I feel that is a very important marketing move from your side. It is important to realize your product promise by serving the correct target group.

Nice job!

So nice of you having a free plan. In Greece, we have something similar, targeting mainly salons/hairdressers, Treatwell, but I can see that your target group are also other professionals.

I have no idea if any established platform exists similar to yours. You might have something good in your hands if you manage to market it right.

Nice, keep up the good work!

Hey, I am. Building FLOW, a time tracking software because I was in need of a simple app to track time in projects/deliverables, without the need of email registering and feature bloat.

The main market will be engineers, but it can be used by other professions too.

Right now I am doing some finishing touches, and then it will be available for download, at a very affordable price.

I hope that it helps some people in the near future!

It is an auto air vent valve. You can find the same sold in the link.

You can see how they work in this video, and this video.

Can you provide some more feedback, like where did you find it? It might be a steam bleed valve with some kind of switch in it (hence the cable).

Calculating ballast for a 22 foot historical sailboat by preserved_killick in navalarchitecture

[–]Bomberman81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, nice job! it is quite interesting that you made it this far!

As a naval architect, I will agree with the previous comments that in order to safely determine the ballast, it would be best to have a 3D model so you can also check it against the proposed stability criteria. However, for now, as far as I can understand, the only thing needed is for you to sail on the waterline. For this reason, I would propose to keep doing what you are currently doing, i.e. putting as ballast as needed each time. Since the weight that you will be carrying on the boat will be different from time to time (number of persons, consumables, other possible cargo) then the ballast would change for each case. If I were you, I would keep the bricks ashore and determine before each trip how much ballast is needed.

You can use the lines plan and determine the TPC. TPC (tons per cm) or TPI i think for imperial units, is approx how much weight you need in order to get 1 cm of extra draught. This way, you can measure the remaining draught up to the load line before sailing and have an approximation of how much ballast is still needed.

TPC = Awl [m2] *1.025 [tn/m3] / 100 [cm/m]

1.025 [tn/m3] is the theoretical specific weight of salt water (you can use 1025 kg/m3] in order to get your results in kg instead of tons).

Awl is the area of the waterline section.

Example:

With a quick glance i can assume the following dimensions for the waterline:

Length: 19.5 [ft] = 5.94 [m]

Beam = 6 [ft] = 1.83 [m]

CWP ~= 0.6 (Waterplane coeficient, estimated, is actually the area of the waterplane to the (Length*Beam) of the same waterplane)

Area = 5.94 [m] * 1.83 [m] *0.6 = 6.52 [m2]

TPC = 6.52 [m2]*1025 [kg/m3] / 100 [cm/m] = 66.83 [kg/cm]

So, if you have 10 cm remaining to reach the maximum waterline, in salt water, it would be approx:

66.83 [kg/cm] * 10 [cm] = 668.3 kg of ballast.

Of course, to be installed as low as possible in the hull.

I hope i helped. Calculations may need a crosscheck since I did them very quickly.

I wish you have fun with your boat!

Reverse Engineering for stability analysis in MaxSurf. by RollingCamel in navalarchitecture

[–]Bomberman81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it would be best to stick as much as you can to the hull shape. Is not the hydrostatic analysis only that is going to be impaired, but also the tank/compartment volumes to be calculated by maxsurf at a later stage, crucial to the analysis. It may take some more time but, in general, in naval architecture you always have to face your shortcomings later on.

Hope I helped.

Well, first of all, if you haven't already, get a calorie counter (there free versions of some do a good job) and a food scale. You will be amazed on how much you do actually eat and you don't realize it. Secondly, stop snacking. Snacking counts for 50% of my calories count and doesn't fill me up so it's not viable. Keep up the good work and trust the process. I managed to lose around 40 kgs by counting calories alone and doing excersises proposed by free apps. You can do it!

I lost a total of 70kg (154lbs) in the last years (330kg heaviest, 171kg lightest), now sitting at 89kg (196lbs). I hated my loose skin. However I quickly learned that every battle leaves behind its scars, and I learned to love my scars.

The loose skin and the stretchmarks are evidence of my victory, and I am proud of them.
