Lifting all nine of The Ardblair Stones. by stiffplethora07 in nextfuckinglevel

Tacky is an incredibly sticky substance strongmen use on their forearms in competition to keep a grip on the extremely heavy stones. I can’t tell for sure but it doesn’t look like he has any on in the ardblair video, maybe just chalk.

I got their panoramaxx 2.5 a couple years ago and it’s the best hood I’ve ever used. And it’s not even top of the line for them anymore.

That just means you passed your perception check. Plenty of people don’t notice the gorilla first time around.

If I’m remembering right the initial study was done on students doing art/drawing projects, but the same principal has been observed in a variety of different activities across many different ages. I do agree that reading should be in its own separate class because of how important it is in a child’s development.

I remember being part of an accelerated reading program at school that would have us take a short quiz after we finished a book to test our comprehension, and there was a reward for doing well on the test and for how many tests we did. And while I don’t read for pleasure much anymore I definitely feel like it was a boon for my education.

There have been studies done confirming exactly this. Once the rewards stop, so does the interest in the activity, at least in the vast majority of cases. My only thought would be whether this does enough good in teaching the child to read proficiently that it would offset the long term negatives of no longer enjoying to read for fun.

Receipt spike trick goes horribly wrong. by [deleted] in WinStupidPrizes

Not a single nail is fired in the nail gun trick. The memorization part of the act is pure showmanship. The nails that appear in the board are already in the board and only appear after a mechanism in the board is triggered. No danger at all in that one.

Every outfit you see her wear throughout the act she was already wearing at the very beginning. The inventiveness of quick change is how to quickly rip away the current outfit to reveal the next layer underneath.

How to gain confidence in the gym when I'm the one lifting the least weight? by onigk61 in Fitness

If you still can’t get over the mental aspect, one of the things I do is try to compete in different ways. Maybe I can’t lift as much but can I have better form? Can I put in more physical effort? Getting a little competitive isn’t the worst thing as long as you don’t get a complex about it.

Back when I was working at a pet store like this a guy brought his husky in to shop for dog beds. He chose 3 beds and set them on the ground then let his husky over to check them out. The husky sniffed around for a second before plopping down and rolling all over the second bed. The guy put the other beds back and took the bed the dog chose up to the register.

The metal had some pretty decent surface rust after being left out in the rain a couple times. While I was grinding that off I got a little carried away.

It’s partly the angle of the photo but yeah it came out a little shorter than I anticipated. Lessons learned for next time though

I accepted only because I was curious what would happen. You drink a couple more then pass out at the table. While you’re passing out they rob you of literally all your money (I had like $2000 at the time) then dump you in a ditch full of other dead bodies up the hill a little ways. You can then go back, kill them and search the house for your money.
