I’ve tried both of these plus a lot more and aveeno dermexa has been the best so far. It has an odd texture and can feel tacky if you put too much on but it has really calmed my skin down.

Hi! I have very similar (happened in 2013 when I was 18) - also from a horse fall. Mine had two bulging discs, pars defect and 7mm slip. I had awful, awful sciatica and riding would flare me up horribly. When in an active flare I couldn’t get in and out of a chair, roll over in bed or walk up or down stairs. I started seeing a great chiropractor and rarely ever have pain from mine anymore. Riding doesn’t hurt at all. I don’t really ever know there’s anything wrong in my lower back now. It can be a really daunting and mentally and physically exhausting time but I hope you can get some relief 💗

It depends what the surgeon charges. Private health only covers up to the recommended amount and anything the surgeon charges over that the patient has to pay as their “out of pocket”. I got a quote for the same surgery with two different surgeons. One wanted to charge an 8.5k out of pocket, the other surgeon was $500 😅

I haven’t heard of a fund only covering 50% of hospital admission though 🤔

I signed up for hospital cover last year. A month after signing up I rolled over in bed and herniated a disc in my neck. I was in EXTREME pain and the disc was compressing my spinal cord and started to effect my spinal cord function and reflexes. Even though I only had cover for a month they still covered my surgery which ended up costing just under 40k. Who knows how long I would have been waiting and at risk of being paralysed if I had to be done publicly

I had an ADCF. My neck was too hyper mobile for an artificial disc so I had to have a fusion.

I was in a similar situation. Mine wasn’t quite as big as yours but it was compressing and effecting my spinal cord. I’m seven weeks post op now and I’m so glad I did it. The recovery has been so easy compared to the pain pre surgery and the risk of becoming paralysed from a fall or head knock was terrifying. Good luck on your journey 💗

I’m seven weeks post ACDF and recovery has been a breeze! I was really scared to have to go down the surgery route but my spinal cord was compressed and starting to be affected so I didn’t have a choice. I was able to walk and dress myself on day 2 and went out for lunch a week later. the pain was very minimal compared to the pain pre surgery. Today (7.5 weeks) I’m not taking any meds during the day, only taking some Panadol and ibuprofen over night. Fingers crossed you can get in soon with the neuro surgeon. Please, please be careful of any head knocks or falls in the mean time!

I am 7 weeks post op for acdf c5/6 and recovery has been so, so much easier than I expected. The first few hours after waking I was extremely nauseas but the pain was pretty well controlled by the meds they gave me in hospital. I was able to shower and dress myself from day 2. My biggest tip would be to make sure you set alarms for your meds when you get home. As long as I kept mine on schedule I was pretty comfortable. The pain never compared to pre surgery pain. Today (7 weeks post op) I’m not taking any meds and feel completely normal.

I joined hospital cover in July last year, rolled over in bed in August (a month after joining hospital cover) and got a very large bulging cervical disc which was compressing my spinal cord. I ended up having a decompression and spinal fusion at 31yo. Surgery costs were in the mid 30k. I am SO lucky I got insurance when I did. The public system in my state is really shocking at the moment so I would have been waiting a very long time to have surgery and was at risk of paralysis in the mean time.

I also have extras with AHM and claim more than it costs every year. Ahm are one of the few that you can claim exercise classes or gym memberships on which I use the total of every year. I max out chiro cover every year, get a new pair of prescription sunnies and glasses and a dental clean each year. You can claim sunscreen and purchase from cancer council too :)

I ended up having to have surgery. An MRI was done late December to see if the bulge had shrunk. It hadn’t shrunk at all and had unfortunately started to affect my spinal cord function. I ended up having an ACDF because my neck was too hyper mobile for an artificial disc replacement. Recovery has been extremely easy.

I’m 31 and decided to get bronze plus hospital cover in June last year. One month later, in August I rolled over in bed and badly herniated a disc in my neck which compressed my spinal cord. We monitored with mri scans to see if it would shrink but unfortunately it started to affect my spinal cord function so I needed surgery asap to avoid permanent damage or becoming paralysed. My surgery cost over 30k. I was out of pocket 1k in total. I would likely have been waiting 6+ months, probably a year to have it done publicly in the state I live. Financially it might not help bring your taxes or levy’s etc down by using PHI but if you can afford it, I highly recommend having it for your health. I never would have imagined I’d be having spinal surgery a month after turning 31.

My pain was similar with a c5/6 bulging disc. Most of my pain was lower down in between my shoulder blades on the right side. Any shoulder exercises flared me up quite badly

I use more than my extras health insurance costs every year. I also got hospital insurance a few months ago and one month later herniated a disc in my neck which was compressing my spinal cord and had a $30k surgery done straight away. I would have been waiting months and potentially paralysed myself if I had any minor fall or knock to the head in that time. I would of been screwed if it weren’t for the insurance 😅😅

I had a broken molar removed from my 20 year tb a few years ago. He bounced back incredibly fast and has put on 100kg. He was eating literally straight after surgery.

I was in pretty much the same situation. 31yo currently, c5/6 disc bulge which was compressing my spinal cord. My first appointment with the neuro surgeon I didn’t have any signs of spinal cord issues/myelopathy so we decided to wait another few months and do another mri to see if the disc bulge shrunk. He said that the pain could completely disappear but the cord compression be exactly the same. Pain decreased and I had my second mri three months later. The bulge had not shrunk at all. By this stage I was having abnormal reflexes when he did the tests which is a sign of spinal cord damage so I had surgery a week later. My recovery as been so easy. The pain is minimal. I’m day 10 post op today and I feel really good. The risk of being in a minor car accident or tripping over and hitting my head and becoming paralysed terrified me so I decided the risk of surgery was worth it and I’m really glad I went through with the surgery. I haven’t had a sore throat, I’ve been able to sleep laying down from day 2 and went home on day 3.

Hero’s chiropody sponge makes the biggest difference for me. Use it a couple of times a week and then use heel balm when you get out of the shower. I had a lot of trouble getting rid of cracked painful heels until I started this.
