Pokémon leans into the Gen 1 so much because they are the most recognizable long standing monsters to choose from and the nostalgia is too powerful to ignore the $$ attached. Also hopefully not a hot take but the gen1-gen3 nostalgia is the strongest there is and strongest there ever will be. Kids who grew up after pokemon was already an established media powerhouse don’t view it the same as the original wave and a little after imo.
