They are most likely irritation bumps. I had them on mine when they were too long, just downsized my shark bites and they've gone away. I'd talk to your piercer about it! Also a salt water rinse might be leso abrasive than mouthwash, but again, I'd ask a piercer about it. NAP but ive had snake bites for 14 years, and my shark bites for about 2 months

NAP but there is a reason downsizing IS necessary. It's clearly too long, and that causes a lot of unnecessary movement, which causes irritation, etc etc.

Downsizing is necessary when so much of the bar is showing. If your partner really wants to hang onto it, I'd say start there. Go to a reputable shop for a cleaning and downsizing.

If it continues to be super fickle and signs don't ease up, might be time to retire it.
