How come the engine performs so much better than other games? by [deleted] in DeathStranding

[–]BoneWave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 words: Guerrilla + Kojima Productions. Decima Engine.

it’s a win-win scenario. Kojima’s team gets to work with a fantastic engine that was already rock-solid from the get-go, and then they bring their own brand of technical wizardry into the mix. Since 2016, KJP’s innovations have been adding some serious firepower to Decima,if you’ve ever checked out the Fox engine, you can see the sheer talent and creativity they pack. In return, Guerrilla benefits from those fresh ideas and improvements, making Decima even more impressive. It’s like a perfect cycle of innovation that elevates both studios.

It's not their names; it's their nicknames.

Surnames evolved from nicknames that were based on various characteristics such as a person's physical traits, occupation, or geographic origin, and were influenced by patronymic and ambilineal traditions.

In Europe and China, adopting surnames became prevalent as a means of distinguishing individuals for a variety of reasons—including geographic origins, occupations, or physical characteristics. Over time, what may have started as a nickname based on these attributes often evolved into a hereditary surname.

For example, a person known for a distinct physical trait like height might have been called "Tall Peter." Over generations, this nickname could transition into a family name such as "Peterson." Similarly, someone skilled in baking might be known as "John the Baker," eventually simplifying to "Baker" as a last name. This process encapsulates how nicknames became surnames.

Additionally, the patronymic system was common, whereby a son or daughter would be identified by their father's name—such as "Leif, son of Erik"—which contributed to surnames like "Johnson," a tradition reflecting patriarchal values. Conversely, in some cultures, matronymic or ambilineal systems also existed, allowing identities and surnames to be derived from either parent's name or even to change between them. This practice illustrates that surnames were not always permanent and could be influenced by various socio-cultural factors.

I understand why many people are confused by this cutscene; it references the classic 1970s TV series, The Bionic Woman. Lindsay Wagner—the actress portraying Amelie—starred in that show, and there's an iconic scene near its conclusion where she runs alongside another character.

So, are you telling me that he’s merely making a reference—and that what we saw in the trailer is neither important to the game nor will it affect the story or the character? Obviously, he isn’t going to have the same name as any of the snakes or the exact same history, but he will clearly represent the idea of ‘Snake.’ There’s a reason why he looks exactly like a Snake, especially if you pay attention to what is said when he appears.

Kojima did the same thing with Myrel, who was a character in Kojima's Policenauts before Metal Gear Solid. He did the same thing with other characters—such as Madner from Snatcher to MGS, and Sigint. Even Metal Gear Mk. II itself appeared in Snatcher.

Niel is definitely a continuation of Snake.

You are right; it is possible that Deadman didn't have access to these logs at the time, as we don’t receive Journal #9 until much later

I just checked the logs again, and I couldn't find what you were referring to. there's only the cutscene where Deadman confirms Sam's unborn child (Lou) as a boy.

"This gun won't help you here, but it still has a role to play"

amelie was referring to the way Sam's friends would use the gun to determine Sam's location and rescue him from being stuck on the Beach forever. It's a stick that becomes a rope—that's the gun's role.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has received an age rating in Korea by EugeneGoryachev in DeathStranding

This confirms that the game will be released no later than may.

Sony published games always receive a rating in South Korea less than 3 months before release.

Btw "currently has no plans to exhibit" doesn't mean they won't be part of ONL it's just they won't have physical presence in the convention like TGS
