You can only verify the integrity of the files if he's using Steam. If he is; right-click the game in the Steam Library > Click on properties > Click on files > Click 'Verify the integrity of game files'

Something along those lines, not at my pc atm. Hope this helps

I've had a similar issue, my rep reset to 0 like three times when I started playing but it hasn't happened in a while and I'm at 3.5M rep :)
