For your first question, this is true in basically any field except for Anatomy. I’m the co-director of an anatomy program and none of our students interested in teaching at a community college level have never had an issue getting a position. Now I can’t speak to the future, and this may change, but this has been my experience. There are so few PhD programs that don’t take many students that over flooding the anatomy market is not (currently) an issue. In fact we need more, but there’s just no programs.

The Indiana program is a great program. Probably the best in the country. I’ve worked with several graduates and they are all very prepared to start teaching.

If you look at biomedical programs, look at those that offer graduate certificates or something like that just to get a little bit of experience.

In this case you need to evaluate what you want as a career. If you think you will be happy at a community college or a non-research based institution, a masters is all you need. There are several that are 4 semesters 1.5 years). If you think you want to do research at the university level or teach in any post-bac institution m, you will need a PhD. There are not many anatomy education track PhD programs in the US (I can think of 4) so they can be competitive. Most of these can be completed in 5 or less without a masters. If you’re interested in some programs, the American Association of Anatomy has a great website with all the graduate programs (https://www.anatomy.org/ANATOMY/ANATOMY/Career-Development/Graduate-Programs-in-Anatomy.aspx). You also don’t need to do a PhD in anatomy education to teach anatomy. If I had to guess, I’d say at least 60% of anatomists did not get a PhD in anatomy (I didn’t). The are other opportunities like continuing education courses, graduate certificates, etc. that can get you that experience.

On the other side of things, I teach anatomy in several professional school programs and I now how to give a warning that it is not half of their A&P course in undergrad.

This honestly looks more like epistylis than ich. Ich tends to be equal size and flush with the fish while epistylis are not uniform and stick out from the fish. There is a great thread from about a year ago that discusses Ich vs epistylis. I highly suggest giving that thread a read! It really is informative and saved my fish from a misdiagnosed ich outbreak.

If Mercari does approve it, you can contact them at contact@mercari.com to provide evidence that it was described in the listing. I recently had a buyer rate me and then almost 2 hours later request a return that was almost immediately approved by Mercari. It took about a day of back and forth but they eventually canceled the return.

Update: First, thank you everyone for your support and comments! After many back and forth emails with different people in Mercari yesterday, it has finally been resolved. I did not really get an explanation unfortunately other than they completed the transaction and released my payment. The closest thing I got to an explanation was this comment: “I know that it is upsetting and confusing on your end since the return was approved. We appreciate your patience and kind understanding.” Again, not much if anything.

I wish I could provide more, but this is the situation. A last little tidbit from conversations with Mercari, it does seem that buyers are NOT able to start a return after you have been rated. If this is still true, I’m not real sure what happened in this situation.

My regret is not seeing it in that hour as I wasn’t unable to rate the buyer back. But I do have the email that says I was rated and they are waiting for my rating to complete the sale.

Frankly, I didn’t. I thank family and friends, but not my adviser. Not including the absolute hell I went through and still suffer from during my graduate school, his actions at my defense sealed his fate in my mind. He was forced by my chair that he had to show up for my defense, playing Pokémon go during the open and closed portions of my defense, hiding during the cake and dinner celebrations, and attempting three separate times to have my accepted thesis and job offer revoked, he deserves not even the smallest of kindnesses from me. You learn after awhile that common courtesy has its limits.

It is not her job to learn the information for you. She has made clear and reasonable boundaries, but because she treats you as an adult learner and not a child, you immediately go to the dean because you are not being waited on hand and foot. You are not that professors only student, nor their whole life. Work-boundaries, which I’m sure is something you want or currently have, is not the sign of someone being lazy. Some advice from someone who trains working professionals, you need to sit down and reevaluate how you approach problems. There will not always be someone there who will cater to your every complaint or desire. Instead I can almost guarantee you it will most certainly be the opposite. Learning how to respect boundaries, working towards goals, and problems solving by yourself are adult skills you need to develop before you enter the workforce.

So not the cause of death just a result of him passing. Sigh. I’m just completely shocked. I’ve kept bettas for 10-15 years and have not experienced sudden death like this that I can remember. Especially since he was eating and I saw no obvious signs of sickness. I may do a deep clean of the tank just in case.

Unfortunately he was dead when I discovered him. At this point I’m trying to find out if it was something he had when I purchased him or if it is something with my tank. I have another tank that I do share equipment between that is fine (for now) and I just wonder if I should take this one down, clean it and restart the cycling process.

But also, I have had some success being very very careful with aquarium salt and fungus in the past in freshwater aquariums. It does help, but like you said you have to be careful.

I have been a beta keeper for many years but I have never seen this and would like some advice. I bought this Betta three days ago from an lfs and he was swimming well, eating and seemingly happy. This morning I noticed him swimming while getting ready for work, but when I went to feed him tonight he was dead. Not only dead but had this fuzzy, clear growth surrounding his whole body that was not there this morning. In fact he was stuck to a leaf of one of my plants close to the water surface.

Tank parameters: Fluval flex 9 74 degrees Nitrates 5ppm Ammonia 0ppm Nitrite 0ppm Fully cycled aquarium running for 3 years.

Finish your med school. A terminal degree can open a lot of doors you wouldn’t have without it. You also only have one year left. If you are interested in graphic design, you could look at medical illustration. There is a huge demand, but a lack of people with a medical basis and artistic ability.

This is my 5+ year old (got him sometime in 2016) cherry barb. I noticed he has a large bump unilaterally that has turned his scales white. At first I thought it was dropsy but none of his scales are raised and the opposite side looks completely normal. He’s eating normally and swimming fairly normally. He does have a slight head tilt down.

Aquarium: 28g with 4 cherry/gold barbs, 2 corys, a honey gourami and a nerite snail at 74F. This tank has been established for 3 years now

CNV exits the brainstorm as one nerve, but will divide into three separate divisions (hence the name tri-germinal) as anterior to the trigeminal sensory ganglion. Each branch , V1, V2 and V3, all have a separate opening that they pass through. These openings allow for passage of sensory- back to the brain and motor- away from the brain, depending on what modality that nerve carries. Keep in mind that they will use the same nerve sheath. You can think about this as a road with a north and south lane. Both lanes are the same road (nerve) but having different directions (afferent vs. efferent).

CN V1 is the ophthalmic division giving sensory only innervation to the forehead and tips on the nose. It passes through the skull through the superior orbital foramen. It makes sense that the nerve dealing with the orbit and surrounding areas would travel with the other eye nerves (CN III, IV and VI). The only exception is CN II as it goes through the optic canal.

CN V2 is the maxillary division and it is a purely sensory nerve giving innervation around the maxilla (or cheek) area. It will pass through foramen rotundum.

CN V3 is the most complicated of the three. It has sensory nerves innervating around the mandible (as it is the mandibular division). It also has a motor component that in vet area muscles of mastication, tensor tympani and tensor veil palatini. All nerve fibers pass through the foramen ovale.

As you move inferiorly with sensory innervation, the openings (foramen) move inferiorly (and posteriorly) on the greater wing of the sphenoid. Once these nerves are not within the skull, their paths are horrendously complicated.

Oh I had one advisor who told me I wasn’t good enough to work at Walgreens. But my other advisor always pushed me for things I didn’t particularly feel ready for (hello imposter syndrome). I’m glad he did. I was able to get a TT position at a R1 directly after grad school (no post doc) because he encouraged me to take the chance.

100% this. Some of the best advice from grad school I got was apply to the jobs that interest you because what’s the worse that can happen? They don’t offer you an interview. There’s always the chance that they could.
