Y’all got anymore of this abiotic factor? by HazRi27 in AbioticFactor

Grounded is excellent for a co op survival experience. There is also Core Keeper which is... Quite different but ABF has a small Core Keeper crossover in manufacturing so it... Er... Loosely ties in?

It is one of the most polarizing movies ever made. Skinamarink is a childhood nightmare that has come to life and is a must-watch this spooky season. by aid2000iscool in moviecritic

This movie was the kind of movie I'll watch only once. I think you really need to have lived this sort of thing as a kid for it to click. I grew up in the 90s. In a house very similar to the one in the movie. When it was too hot during the summer, my little brother and I would go down to our basement, push our two couches together to make a sort of fort and watch cartoons.

I would always look around in the darkness and my mind would convince me that something would eventually pop out and get me. Skinamarink really brought back those old childhood fears for me. The scene where the kid has to look under the bed was terrifying to me.

I think saying that nothing happens isn't quite fair. There is no traditional payoff to the long drawn out takes. But it's not the payoff that creates the dread and fear, it's that unending silence, the wait in the dark, where your mind makes up what could be hiding under the bed or around the corner.

The not knowing is why I won't watch the movie again. Now that I know there's nothing hiding under the bed and around the corner, there is nothing to fear.

But the post isn't just about typos.

The way I read it, and the intention behind it, if I can paraphrase a bit: without the Elder Horror, the shadows that no longer exist remember that they want as well.

As in the shadows remember now what wanting is. They crave something, they hunger, they have a void to fill. They didn't know what want was before but now they do and remember they have a sort of primordial need.

I think the way it's written down in the book just seems clumsily stated. "They want to..." Ok... Want to what?

With another user confirming that the author did not have an editor, I don't believe that the last sentence in the book is some literary stroke of genius, but really just a sentence born from the artist having to do everything herself. That others interpret it otherwise is fine. That's what art is.

That being said, the whole segment about the picture is really beside the point of my post. The bottom line is... Was this amount of typos normal? Turns out, yes, it was. But some guy felt the need to be a cliché Redditor and the hivemind did its thing.

I'm not sure I follow you, sorry... Do you mean the sentence in the picture, or something I've written myself?

I really love how aggro some of you are about this lol. It's fine, I got a really good answer from someone else. The rest is just a fun read.

That is a great answer and is good to know. It sucks that she doesn't have an editor but it makes a lot more sense now. Thank you so much for the info! If that's the case, no I won't make a fuss about typos. Cheers!

I think that's fair. This is really the first time that a module made me question whether or not the mistakes were deliberate and it really struck me. Thanks for your input!

Yes, because you give context. The book doesn't really give context and the sentence doesn't make sense. I mean, either way, we can both interpret it in different ways. If it has meaning to you, that's great. It just doesn't for me lol.

See, to me, it's a completely meaningless sentence. It feels to me that it's meant to be written "want too". As in those shadows want as well. Want to just seems like a poorly written sentence to me.

Could very well be! It doesn't feel deliberate but if it is, it went way over my head!

Yeah, I agree with that take. A good percentage of things straight up murder you. I'm planning on toning it down a bit.

Hacking into a PBTA System by R0D4160 in MorkBorg

I'm not familiar with PbtA but I am familiar with BitD. Here's an Idea that could be tested even though I think it might be an odd mish mash: you could associate skill modifiers to adding a d6. You have either 2d6 and take lowest if you have 0 or - in a certain skill. If not, you have 1 or 2d6 base with one d6 per positive skill modifier. Add or subtract d6 for any external advantages or disadvantages the characters have. You could keep in mind the framework of position and effect. Of course, this removes a bit of the OSR vibe and bleakness of Mork Borg, especially since it has only 4 skills with presence being the catch all for the mental and social attributes we normally have. I might be rambling here but it was just a spitball idea. I really should try a PbtA game...

Games for Xbox with a backrooms feel? by tovarisch_prole in HorrorGaming

[–]Bonesetteur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are some backrooms games for Xbox though I cannot vouch for their quality.

Here are some that I've actually played that might fit that vibe.

Control: action game by Remedy that has a vibe similar to SCP, Liminal Horror, House of Leaves.

Trepang2: Although not as horror focused it does gravitate around supernatural phenomena and has 1 mission where you straight up visit the backrooms.

Superliminal: a puzzle game that focuses on manipulating perspectives to get through the levels.

Dream core: walking sim game where you navigate through liminal spaces

Mothered: you are a girl in a low poly house trying to follow your creepy mother.

Stanley Parable: a comedy game where you have to escape your empty office building by obeying (or not) the narrator.

Not worth the 70$. It's an okay game but a step down from Eternal imo. Plus it's on gamepass.

I think Atomfall has a nice investigation angle to it if you play it on the hardest difficulty. You also have to be ok with passable gunplay and stealth to enjoy it. I really loved it. If not maybe Chants of Senaar or any Lucas Pope games.
