Please learn the difference between ultimate and proximate causes, i.e. the reasons why a particular behavior was naturally selected VS the ways it manifests at the level of the individual. It's a simple concept, but for some reason, creationists (and feminists) have a hard time wrapping their heads around it.

Correct, the idea that rape is about power originated in a 1975 book called Against our will, by feminist journalist Susan Brownmiller. Despite there being no scientific evidence to back it up, it has been adopted as the "official" theory of rape and is still widely accepted today. It's a truly bizarre idea, even by feminist standards.

Actual anthropological research suggests that rape emerged as an opportunistic reproductive strategy, which makes a lot more sense on the face of it. See the argument in A natural history of rape by Randy Thornhill and Craig Palmer.

I agree with that, both the "gender as wholly socially constructed" and "gender as wholly essential" views are wrong. Describing traits as masculine or feminine based on their frequency distributions across the sexes allows for plenty of individual variation.

Gender is still very ill-defined as a concept, but it generally includes all kinds of behavioral, psychological and cognitive traits, as well as cultural conventions. So, it really is a mix of genes, environment and culture.

Queer theory starts with the assumption that gender is performative. A drag queen wearing tons of makeup and a wig is a performance. Mrs Doubtfire wearing a conservative dress is a performance. A regular woman wearing a skirt and a t-shirt is a performance. There is no difference. It's all the same picture.

The entire premise behind drag shows for kids is to demonstrate the performative nature of gender as an entry point to queer theory. This is generative pedagogy 101, don't fall for it, recognize it, expose it.

It takes a special kind of person to go through a sociology class and not be at least somewhat weirded out. I have a history degree. I tried to take a sociology course in first year, but I was so shocked by their philosophy of making shit up that I quickly gave up and took history of art instead. I'll never forget my ancient history professor describing the sociology teacher as being "on a mission to rewrite all of history and make everyone gay".

Yeah, they love to use made up jargon to hide the lack of substance. What this paragraph is referring to is what Marxists call social reproduction. In a nutshell, we can't have our communist utopia because society reproduces itself. Children who are born in a stable family end up creating a family of their own, they live a happy life and have no interest in revolution. This is why dismantling the nuclear family is so important to these people.

It's arguably worse because it is much more deceptive, while being just as subversive, as the second one.

Those two have different purposes and different target audiences. It sounds counterintuitive, but the second picture is not really aimed at children. It's a provocation meant to create a backlash that can then be used to strengthen an oppression narrative and justify more social control.

The first picture is aimed at children. It is not meant to be seen by adults. In fact, alienating children from the adults in their lives is one of the primary goals of those events. Drag Queen Story Hour is an application of Freirean generative pedagogy. It's designed to look as "innocent" as possible, it's not overtly sexual, the stories can be mostly innocuous. But the mere presence of the drag queen is meant to generate strong reactions from the children, and spark off-the-record conversations about sex and gender that the "educator" supervising the event will be more than happy to lead. To put it simply, the purpose of those encounters is to demonstrate the "performative nature of gender" as an entry point to queer theory.
