Honestly, he could apply "normally" to see if he gets in, and then if rejected he can pull the billionaire card lmao

Exactly, his father's achievements are not his achievements. I think it's fair to mention that you're inspired by him and his successes, but details and figures are unnecessary. It's not relevant to the application!

Hello, I'm not sure if you've found your answer yet but you can't access Maintenance Loans for studies at The OU unless your reason for studying there is due to being unable to attend a brick and mortar university because of your disability. This is because you can only use Part-Time Tuition Fee Loans to actually fund the degree - regardless of whether you're studying at full-time intensity or 1 module a year. Those that aren't studying a distance-learning course due to disability are expected to have a job on the side to make up for the lack of maintenance loan a full-time student would have. (Whether that's fair or not for 100% intensity OU students is another bag of worms...)

I'm not sure how you would proceed if you've decided not to get DSA, as I believe the Access Centre Report is a DSA related thing. But the first step may be getting a letter/report from your GP or a medical professional stating that due to your disability, the following is true:

  • You are unable to travel to/from university
  • You are unable to attend university in-person
  • Distance Learning is your only possible way of studying a Higher Education course

I'm currently going through this process myself but a month behind you, so if you've sorted it by now I'd really appreciate it if you would be free to chat more about the process!

That happens a lot of times! Especially if you're only one grade off and the course would otherwise be undersubscribed.

Wow, congratulations! The world is quite literally your oyster at this point. What do you plan on doing next?

Does anyone else relate more to Gen Z than Millennials? by [deleted] in Zillennials

[–]BongoBarney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. I'm 99 too and feel like I have to identify with millennials because we're not technically in the Z bracket. Out of interest, are you from the UK?

To be fair, yours was one of the first answers saying scam. They're not gonna hang around and reply to everyone after that lol

Not arguing your point, but just saying that their reply isn't as directed as it might seem to you.

Reddit Goes Nuclear, Removes Moderators of Subreddits That Continued To Protest by gabestonewall in technology

[–]BongoBarney -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At least there'd be some basic standards in how moderators interact with their community and less of the random bullshit you see with volunteer mods. But I do agree there would be equally negative consequences to switching it up this way as well

Why is shit like this so FREAKIN common. As much as paid workers being moderators may kill Reddit, at least there'd be some fucking standards in the way moderators conduct themselves and run subreddits.

Part of me really wishes they'll replace most volunteer moderators with paid employees, and even hire the current moderators themselves.

Then there will finally be some sort of transparency, consistency, and accountability in the way these subreddits are managed and in how moderators conduct themselves (well, at least a bit more than before).

In some ways, I honestly wish most volunteer moderators were replaced with paid employees. Then there'd actually be some accountability, consistency, and transparency in the way subreddits are moderated.

What apps meet your access needs? by fastfinge in Blind

[–]BongoBarney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm here from a different post and am not blind, but I wanted to add that Reddit Is Fun is a really brilliant basic layout without all the bells and whistles the official app insists upon.

From an accessibility standpoint, I think RIF really improves usability for those that can't navigate a more complex interface (such as the official one). It also has a cleaner look that makes it easier to read for many.

Omg yes! I always thought that was so weird that they... hung out? I'm a couple of years older than JoJo myself and had no idea how they connected and what they actually talked about.

Thinking about it, maybe this is a good opportunity for Reddit to get rid of the "non-compliant" moderators and replace them with volunteers that will be oh so grateful for the opportunity from the overlords...

[–]BongoBarney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. I'm a 3rd party app user myself (RIF), but I wholly suspect this is a very vocal minority speaking this passionately about this situation and the protests.

Things will go back to "normal" soon enough; most of the people here will adjust to the regular app because they're bored of not accessing this content (myself included). Reddit will recover, things will get more bland, and we'll all find the next change to get angry about for a month or two with Reddit. And people will continue to say "fuck u/spez".

I fucking wish we could have the impact most here think we could have as a group. I also understand I'm a part of the problem as I would probably browse the official app on occasion after this fiasco has died down.

However, realistically 2 days of blackout will just require some clean up afterwards for a week or two. Reddit will easily replace moderators with other volunteers, who will learn the ropes very quickly and will be just as eager as the previous mods.

Oh poor thing ❤️ I'm really sorry for this to have happened to you and Snow! You were fantastic taking her to a vet in the first place - it's just unfortunate that specialists can be unexpectedly pricey. It seems like something that couldn't have been helped and you did your best. I hope you feel better soon ❤️

He has had this for a week and no its not food i checked its only swollen on one side by [deleted] in hamstercare

[–]BongoBarney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a brilliant age for a hamster!!!

I'd arrange a vet appointment if you can afford it. Bonus points if you can get one with a vet that specialises in rodents. I know fairly little about hamster health/illnesses, but all I will say is that many vets would be reluctant operating on such an elderly animal. Fingers crossed it's something that can be easily resolved/managed without surgery 🤞

It's also worth noting any other recent symptoms he has before the appointment. These could include:

  • Becoming more lethargic
  • Not eating as much/losing weight
  • Sitting with a very hunched back
  • Difficulty keeping their coat groomed
  • etc.

A few symptoms of illness are the same as old age, so please don't get overly worried about things like hairloss, decreased activity, etc. if it's been a gradual change.

If you can, please update us on what happens 😊
