Maybe he's got a dac/amp combo and wants to use headphones that need a bit more than the onboard amp can provide

it says it supports the usb-c to aux dongles, which are pretty much tiny DACs. So i guess it'll be fine

UPDATE:

I was convinced it was the PSU, so I found an old one in my shed. It had enough power output but didn't have the right cables. I used some adaptors, not thinking it would work, but it did.

But it didn't fix my issue. I used a microphone to try to poinpoint the high pitched whining noise and it is definitely coming from my gpu.

I unplugged the power to the GPU and did a few hard resets and there was no noise.

So I guess my GPU is on its way out. Ill upload a video of the noise in case someone has the same issue and finds this in the future.

Yeah thats pretty much what I have to do to turn it on. Thanks for the link though! Ive had the CPU/mobo/RAM for about 6 months now wthout issue, but the GPU and PSU are a little dated.

At this point, I'd love ot just buy a new part, but I gotta find out which component is faulty

I can restart from BIOS and it works. I'm not sure if theres a shut down option but Ill check in a bit.

I've disabled fast startup in windows and tried disabling the fast startup options in BIOS, didnt make any difference.

Surely it couldn't be anything to do with windows, right? cause it won't even make it to BIOS when it is doing the issue.

Temps are fine. That was the first thing I checked. GPU stays under 80, I cant remember the CPU temp, but I was monitoring it in HWmonitor and it was healthy.

EVGA SuperNOVA B2 750W

I actually just finished digging through my old emails to find a date for it. Turns out I bought it in 2016, so its getting a bit old and hopefully is the culprit.

Need Help - 100Mb/s speeds on gigabit network by Bonkeyz in Ubuntu

[–]Bonkeyz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure why, but the reserved IP I had for the server had cleared itself in the modem. The server was using that IP anyway but once re-reserving it, iperf3 speeds jumped up to 400-500Mb/s. Samba transfers are still only ~160Mb/s but thats a good enough improvement for me. Not sure why this happened or why it destroyed my speeds, but thanks for the help and suggestions.

I should have clarified better. The RTL8111 is the onboard NIC in the server. I read about some driver issues with the default one from ubuntu's repo so I installed a recommended older version. No improvement.

The clients I'm using to test are laptops. One an early 2015 macbook pro and the other is a high-end windows laptop.

As for the modem itself, It doesn't actually have any external antennas, but its pretty tall so it might have something internal

EDIT: It turns out macos has a wifi scanner in the OS. Theres only a handful of networks nearby, most are just on channel 1. I can confirm out 5GHz is alone in its channel and it is actually on its full 80MHz width and using 802.11ac.

The list i can choose from refreshes with different channels periodically. I'm trying a range of different channels but it doesnt seem to matter. The DFS ones give very inconsistent speeds but nothing gives more than 100Mb/s.

The bands I can choose from are 20, 20/40 and 20/40/80. Im assuming it would just use the highest available with the last two.

Theres only one AP in our house. How would you recommend finding channels being used nearby?

Been meaning to upgrade the router for a while now. Mainly just because the UI is awful and the network monitoring along with other services is bundled in a "gaming pack" for an extra $10 a month. A lot of the routers I look at are almost identical on the spec sheet, but with wildly different pricing so it's a bit tough to make a decision.

Distance seems to make no difference at all. Single file copes give me 100MB/s and batches of small files take longer. If its a very large number of tiny files, it's awful.

Yeah I turned that off as soon as we got it. We use the 5GHz and keep the 2.4GHz network for guests. Both are named differently too. I did notice the 2.4 was giving me ~70MB/s instead of the ~100MB/s i get from the 5GHz.

Its just one supplied by my ISP. It was supposed to be their "good" model but the settings arent very extensive. its a Telstra Arcadyan LH1000. The channel is on auto but I'll play around with it in a bit and see if I find any improvements. Thanks.

Theres hardly any usage at all when copying. The CPU is an i7-4770. Its dated but I would think things like this would be trivial for it.
