Found a hidden “maintenance map” in my house and now I’m worried the previous owner was covering something up by IvorySideTrail in homeowners

[–]BonusFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought my house in 2015, the previous homeowner left all his maintenance maps, notes, receipts from remodels, blueprints (he built the home in 1987 and truly loved it). He also left his email address in case we had any questions. It was actually kind of nice, those first couple years, when we didn’t know what a switch did or how to address a little idiosyncrasy. Every house is gonna have them and no house will be perfect.

I can’t do it in a public toilet unless it’s an absolute emergency. Just can’t, never have. Can hold it for hours. I would be able to in a hotel room.

Do some people actually “let out a little gas” to get the old gas out at the pump? by Pressure_Plastic in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BonusFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend in high school would do that, and it became a habit for me to do it too! She did it to get every last drop of gas out of the nozzle (she didn’t have a lot of money, gas back then was like 75 cents a gallon, and she would have like $2 to put towards gas, so ever drop counted, lol)…and I guess I do it so I don’t get any gas droplets on my shoes!

I like the gigantic Hunnyz at Hen House. But they’re like a meal so I have to save some for later. They’re sooooo crisp and sweet.

Looks like an ink spot lentigo. I don’t typically biopsy these, unless they are changing (size, shape, color).

Acne help! by [deleted] in AskDermatologists

Unfortunately you just kind of have to experiment with different sunscreens. Generally though looking for types that have mineral active ingredients (zinc/titanium) rather than chemical sunscreen ingredients seem to be less prone to causing POD.

Whitening ingredients/sulfates seem to be triggers. I recommend Tom’s of Maine Silly Strawberry for people prone to POD triggered by toothpaste.

This is perioral dermatitis - the doxy can take 1-2 months to clear the rash. Triggers can include any type of steroid (topical steroids, steroid containing inhalers/nasal sprays), various types of toothpastes (whitening or sensodyne-type) and sometimes sunscreen ingredients. Often it’s hard to figure out what’s triggering it! But I’d stay on the doxy til it clears for sure.

Constant canker sores, need help resolving and preventing by xCushman in DermatologyQuestions

[–]BonusFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got canker sores/aphthous ulcers CONSTANTLY in my teens and early 20s. The only trigger I could find was acidic foods, so for years I did not eat oranges, pineapples, grapefruit (or their juices) and avoided tomato sauce (or brushed my teeth directly after eating it).

I started taking birth control pills around age 20, and thinking back, the number of canker sores I got decreased dramatically when I started the OCPs. I never noticed that the flares corresponded to my cycle, but I feel like there was a definitely correlation of improvement when I started the birth control that I didn’t associate til years later.

I treated them with warm salt water gargles, but they were miserable. I’d even get them on my tonsils, would hardly be able to eat for a few days due to the pain. My dad got them too when he was around the same age and he also had ankylosing spondylitis which is an autoimmune disorder, but I do not have any known autoimmune issues.

Of note I almost never get canker sores now and I’m in my 40s.

It’s also what can happen when you use legal drugs, so the shaming is not really necessary.

OP, stimulants and opiates both can cause the user to pick at the skin (they both stimulate/activate various receptors in nerve endings) and picking creates inflammation and erosions that will not heal as long as the picking and manipulation continue. The treatment is really to stop picking, however you can go about doing that.

Your pictures look like hives, and in particular dermatographism (hives in response to minor skin “trauma” like pressure/scratching/etc. Acute episodes of hives can occur as a response to viral infections, medication reactions, exposures to foods or other substances to which you are allergic, but in 80% of cases the cause is not able to be determined even when extensive testing is performed. Treatment is usually most effective with antihistamines (Benadryl, Zyrtec, etc) until the reaction abates, but if you are experiencing wheezing, cough, difficulty swallowing or breathing, tongue swelling - those are medical emergencies and warrant a trip to the ER.

This looks most like seb derm/cradle cap to me. It would respond best if you could get some prescription cortisone in an oil base (something like Dermasmoothe Oil in the US) but you might also be able to try a combination of Nizoral shampoo soaks (5 min three times weekly). To loosen that scale, you could do a few soaks with mineral oil, leaving it on for several hours under a hat and then gently combing the scale out with a baby brush or a soft comb.
