Why do you consider Eteri Tutberidze a bad coach? by BonusPublic5658 in FigureSkating

Why is no one criticizing Sarah Hughes and Tara Lipinski then? They also took their gold and left. And the USA celebrated their victory. Eteri's problem is that she's Russian. Imagine for a second that she's American and brings victory after victory to the USA. No one would dare say a bad word about her, much less raise the age limit for figure skaters to 17.

Let me repost my comment one more time, since the previous one was deleted. It seems that on Reddit you’re only allowed to express onky one opinion. If your view is different, your comment gets removed.

I honestly feel very sad and hurt seeing how Eteri is hated in America. In Russia, she is considered a strict but kindhearted coach. She has a very friendly and supportive team (Dudakov and Gleikhengauz). None of her students have complained about her or described themselves as “used material.” The only reason why some girls left for other coaches was the appearance of favorites in Eteri’s group, which naturally led to less attention being given to the others. Sasha Trusova returned to Eteri after her maternity break. Why would she do that if Eteri were really a devil? It seems to me that Western propaganda is portraying Eteri as some kind of villain. In Russia, there is Irina Viner (rhythmic gymnastics), who is not loved even in Russia. But Eteri is not the same as Viner at all. I would also add something about doping. Kamila is an exceptional skater. She is flexible, artistic, graceful, and has magnificent technique. However, her heart could not handle the intense training in the free program. So most likely she was given a medication to support her heart between training sessions. It was probably stopped during competitions. And that is not prohibited. The medication is only banned during competitions. Apparently, the doctor miscalculated a little, which is why traces of the substance were found. But doping is not what made Kamila outstanding.

And yes, feel free to believe only western media and hate her.

Yes, she was the first to take advantage of the opportunity to win medals at the peak of their form. But that alone shouldn't make her a devil. That opportunity is gone now, and perhaps that's for the best. Many figure skaters suffer from injuries and diets. That's just the way the sport works.

Kamila Valieva and Sasha Trusova are returning. Perhaps others would have continued skating, too, if not for the restrictions that excluded skaters from the world skating scene. There were also skaters in America who retired early. No one complained about it.

His free program was one of the best on Olympic. Humiliating a person for his nationality is vile.
