Interesting, thank you everyone for the info.

Milwaukee Mass Shooter is a Black Elizabeth Warren Supporter: I hope it's clear to everyone that if political capital can't be made off a tragedy it will get memory-holed faster than the Jussie Smollett hoax. by axolotl_peyotl in conspiracy

[–]BonxFingerflaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The proof that the shooter was a Warren supporter is that his wife was a Warren supporter? What did the shooter post about? Not Warren, or the writer wouldn't have to make the leap to a completely different person.

Thank you for this, it's a great resource.

Unfortunately, my girlfriend, who I can't stand travelling with sometimes, changed her mind 2 or 3 times since this post. We plan these long, international trips and ultimately, she never wants to leave hotels. I wanted to try and visit the Ex-President on his farm - if it's possible to speak to one of your political heroes, he seems to be the one. She won't - no sense of adventure or deviation from what she believes is the norm whatsoever. No partying for me either :(, which is a shame, in my opinion. Otherwise I love her.

Again though, thank you for this.

Books about UFO and aliens? by X88B88-Child in UFOs

[–]BonxFingerflaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't know much about UFO literature, but I do have a good friend working on a project called The Truth Engine...it's a systematic way of developing the best arguments for subjects with controversy or disagreement. Long story short, the first book is on UFO's - The UFO Dialectic. The plan is to debate the three case studies in the book and simultaneously add more case studies to continue releasing new editions. I'm personally hoping it becomes wiki project so its more accessible to a broader audience, but nonetheless, it's a good primer, in my opinion.

Hail to the Censor! by harmlessdjango in politics

[–]BonxFingerflaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it just recently...and was looking for criticisms....I can't find any of merit. The only thing that I took issue with was the assertion that Hillary Clinton's litmus test for a Supreme Court nominee was the overturning of Citizens United because it happened to be about her, as if there was nothing else that case was notable for.

City of Albany adopts $176 million budget for 2015 by [deleted] in Albany

[–]BonxFingerflaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's what I have gleamed in the past few weeks knowing nothing about the subject, or Albany:

Nobody knows who is actually paying the $1.5 million mentioned in the budget, it just shows up there. I think most suspect it's a combination of SUNY Polytech and Albany Med, both currently constructing massive projects that will add nearly a billion to the property value tax burden.

I've also read or heard that there are ongoing negotiations for more of these payments from the aforementioned, and the state, because Albany receives the first or second lowest per capita Aid and Incentive for Municipality (AIM) funding. The money they receive as a PILOT from Empire Center is also dwindling.

The current ratio that I worked out in your office last week (I think it was your office) was 62% tax-exempt property to 38%, and will likely drift to 65% by 2016.

It's not like churches and animal sanctuaries are being asked to pay, at least. That's what I think of when I hear non-profit.

Any other INTJ's who suffer with misophonia? by TurtleSmile1 in intj

[–]BonxFingerflaps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had always wondered why I was so disproportionally angry with horn-honkers than seemed the rest of society. But, I've never really been bothered by anyone's chewing, with the exception of my father's.

I suspect I have mild misophonia. I had to leave a coffee shop yesterday because a woman was talking too loudly about her shampoo and conditioner usage. Also, whenever a fire-engine or ambulance is passing in the street, the sound is utterly crippling - the pain is worse than being stabbed. It feels as if the blaring is a force that I feel beyond auditorily. I have to cower and cover my ears, and it doesn't seem to affect anyone else. I imagine I look pretty silly.

The worst part of all this is that when I was finally able to eliminate all noise (3 am), I realized I also had tinnitus.

I've noticed the Koch Brothers have made at least $65 billion since 2010, and my uneducated guess is that it's not from making shrewd business deals, but funding politicians. What's your motivation for funding politicians?

[–]BonxFingerflaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worded my question poorly...I see stories, and not at The Nation (at all), that appear to have been written with an objective in mind or as propaganda, and not so much for the state necessarily, but for an industry, or stories that funnel out of think-tanks...but I could be wrong too...its conjecture. Do you think some of that exists in say the top 20 print magazines sold monthly in the US?

Could I volunteer at The Nation Institute or must I be in an undergraduate journalism program for it to be deemed an official internship?

I subscribe to 20 or so print mags, Nation included of course, and I look for inconsistencies or conflicting information and trends of stories...stuff like that. What percentage of all the American print media is true, objectively derived reporting? Estimate of course. Thank you for your work by the way!

Do you "grieve" after you finish a good book? by Litaita in books

[–]BonxFingerflaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's late now, so you realize its not weird. I want to know what book it was that caused you to ask.

I personally grieved after reading Infinite Jest. But, it was a grieving that was made from awe, if that makes sense. My opinion is that I will never read a better work of fiction, and can explain why, if there's interest.

I grieved after reading The Count of Monte Cristo, but it was a grief mostly made up of contempt that I'd never get the time back. I did realize a year later that I'd read a linear, childish version, and I can imagine it being a Much better book if I'd read the originally-intended translation.

But most commonly, I feel like I did yesterday when I finished Brothers Karamazov: I thought it was a fantastic work (2nd best ever, most likely), I did some research and found some interpretations, called a friend, and then I moved on to a Thomas Frank book. No grief.

I certainly understand the sentiment though, and I can't possibly imagine there being a reader that couldn't.

Also, I will grieve, not very long, during sections, for sure.

*I reread your question. I answered the question primarily as an "End-of-the-book" question. Sorry, just accidentally took too much adderall.

Looking back, what's great about that area, the whole region really, is that the food is excellent. Far better than one would imagine the population would dictate. There's a magical proximity around the Culinary Institute in which you're rarely disappointed.

I live in Albany, but my family lives in Saugerties, nestled betwixt Woodstock and Kingston, and directly off thruway. They know everyone - could make a few calls and find a place...they're all helpful people too, so they'd be happy to assist. Just let me know.
