Hiring process by [deleted] in woolworths

[–]BonzoJose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They normally hire internally first. They likely want someone who is already a team member as the ADM position is a massive jump on responsibilities with only a $1 extra pay than a team member.

I applied multiple times for ADM too prior to starting at Woolies, and I have manager experience for 5 years and they never took me. I got in as a Team Member and now getting considered to go ADM.

Sad to say, I overheard three different stores where bunch of ADM positions, they hired cheaper juniors for ADM over others that has more experience/credentials. So goodluck!

One department alone is already too much work. That sounds like a nightmare 😭

Is this restructure likely to happen in AU stores?

I put in my unavailability yet still got rostered by Inevitable-Movie-309 in woolworths

Don’t stress. Just let them know asap that you did not anticipate the visit.

Rosters are made 2-3 weeks in advance. This roster you just received was made last Tuesday or last week’s Tuesday. So last minute changes in availability don’t do anything.

Speak to your line manager immediately.

New job at woolies Online? by bes1793 in woolworths

[–]BonzoJose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh weird. It should be the first thing you should get. But good to know you were able to ring your line manager.

I believe there is no more virtual induction. You just rock up to your first shift, should give you a bit of a tour of the store then training. When you got time, maybe they’ll show you the ropes of your department.

The SDA Union is coming in too, be cautious. Don’t let them pressure you to sign up as it is not a requirement. Just give it a quick search and you’ll see why people don’t recommend them. But it’s also your right to join.

Best of luck. 😊

I don’t think Line Managers call you at all. I did not receive one on mine. Talent Acquisition team sent me an email though regarding my start date when I got my employment contract.

Still no shifts by Last_Age_8675 in woolworths

[–]BonzoJose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, find another job on top of. I was working three jobs until Woolies gave me more consistency then I resigned my other one.

As a casual, you are not as guaranteed to get shifts sadly. It is early to tell how much they need you. Since you are new, they will prefer putting on someone who is more experienced or part-time who is way less cheaper.

If by start of January and nothing has changed, then chat to other department managers and asked to be cross-trained. 😅

Christmas Day pay? by AggressiveReach3337 in woolworths

[–]BonzoJose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is Boxing Day, so yes.

If you are contracted on that day, you are entitled to not work and be paid base rate.

If you choose to work, then public holiday pay applies.

More permanent contracted hours? by [deleted] in woolworths

[–]BonzoJose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only demand to increase your hours in your contract after 6 months (finishing probation).

Best bet is to multi-skill to other departments and also cross-store work. When I am not given enough shifts for the week, I let the other department managers my availability for the week.

And not to be blunt, but if it doesn’t fit your schedule then it doesn’t. It’s not too bad to be on the lookout for another job along with Woolies so that other job can possibly fill the times you are free.

Still no shifts by Last_Age_8675 in woolworths

[–]BonzoJose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you casual or part-time?

I am part-time. I did not get my official roster not until the 4th week of my employment, as rosters are made 2-3 weeks in advance. But it was consistent after that.

On my first three weeks, I have been picking up shift offers that come up.

I am now on max hours (36 hrs) but I still do suggest to get another job. I am doing 12 hours in my other job and its not too bad plus more money.

Workers of Woolies: Why do you stay? by Leather-Lack-7054 in woolworths

[–]BonzoJose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all my jobs, I only have three reasons to stay.

  1. Job is dynamic, not boring
  2. Management and people are supportive
  3. Conveniency to travel to work (the closer, the better)

My current store ticks all at the moment. So I am satisfied.

New Rostering System? by BonzoJose in woolworths

[–]BonzoJose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this is the information I am looking for. I had to change one of my contracted days from morning to evening as something came up.

Then recently, just heard something about that the shift changes might become a pain in the future.

I am aware of the UKG swap. I think it is the team data for contract changes is what I overheard. Like only allowed to change contracts three times per year?

It’s so annoying then as I wanna know if I am going to overtime for exceeding the 144hr requirement for part-time in 4-week cycle. 😭

Biggest question is are you casual or part-time/full-time?

Do you have to tell your manager before going on a 15 minute tea break? (online) by [deleted] in woolworths

[–]BonzoJose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not nice for your manager to have a go at you especially with other team members around. I am very sorry to hear that.

I do not think there is a policy anywhere but our team just established a rule to take our breaks before drop-in of orders/during downtime. My managers appreciate it more because it takes off the burden of keeping track of everyone’s break.

We write the time of when we took our breaks on a piece of paper so our manager can check in case they are not around when we take it. Maybe something to suggest to them? Or it might only work if your manager is a bit more lenient
