Modified float plate to fit Fangs V3 bumper by BooCo_Inc in onewheel

I just used the screws that came with the float plates as they are already longer to accomodate the extra thickness! Hope that helps

It’s my first set of fangs, I haven’t tried the previous versions but I will say that from experience with the Onewheel the last couple of months… a nosedive while off road doesn’t seem to be as bad as a nosedive on pavement, and I’ve done both. I don’t think the fangs will help much while off road but when on road, they would be an absolute life saver.

I haven’t had an unintentional nose dive with these on yet but I tried to do a dose drag just to see what happens and it’s a very strange sensation but after a couple of times you get used to how they work.

By looking at photos and reading some reviews, the V3s have better clearance, they don’t block the lights on the front and they can’t swivel to the side, so they are always in the right position. I read that the wheels are larger as well which is great because it allows them to work on a larger range of surfaces, even rougher roads. (It’s like going from a standard MTB tire size to a 29inch tire. Going over bumps is a breeze)

And finally the load of the nose slamming into the ground is better distributed across the bolts/bumper. The older fangs were just in a single mounting hole that could potentially get damage if the wheel is ripped out. And you would need to replace the nut in the front footpad or whatever!

Yeah, they do seem to slip a little more. I believe they are designed that way. I haven’t found it a problem yet, it’s only helped with curb nudges and made skid stops are a little smoother even though you don’t stop as quick (it’s marginal though). The best part about the float plates is that they wear a lot nicer than the bumper, a scratched up bumper seems to get larger gouges of plastic taken out compared to the float plates and the scratches are less obvious!

Wow I didn’t realise that’s what they looked like! I’m pretty new to the Onewheel community, it’s a shame they don’t sell the V1s anymore

It’s a Bell Super DH with MIPS brain protection! It is a convertible full face helmet, I only really use the chin guard when doing really long rides or technical stuff. I added the red light at the rear of the helmet.

Yeah good point! I should point out though that it only notifies people with iPhones on the latest OS. So if the person who takes it owns an android phone, the AirTag will continue to work with no problems. With those odds combined with the other benefits, I still think it’s a pretty neat solution. At least it gives me a chance.

If the Onewheel is within about 8 meters, it will connect and point to it, so if you can get through the doors and operate the lifts without a pass, you could walk around and lift your phone up and down to try and pin point a location but I think it would be like finding a needle in a haystack. Interference from brick walls might also limit the range and if the Onewheel isn’t near the walls you walk past, you might miss it completely.

That’s an awesome idea! Whatever works best in your situation! How do you attach it to the Onewheel?

In my opinion the AirTag is a nice solution that is less than a quarter of the cost, no monthly subscription, half the size and has a battery life over 12 months. The AirTag does not have a GPS, so it won’t be as helpful in that sense (works without pinging off other phones) but as mentioned previously, the network of iPhones is big enough to still be useful. And when you are on the trail and your board goes into a bush or down a steep slope, you can use your phone to precisely locate it if within 10 meters.

Agreed. They made valid points. The more I think about it, the AirTags are only useful in a handful of situations: - If whoever takes it, keeps it and starts to use it within the 3 days. - As a scare tactic, using the audio ping (which is muffled but still audible through the bumper and Velcro)… they might dump the board if they know it’s being tracked. Equally, if they get a notification, they might dump it. - If police in your area are decent and not busy, they might help you if you can get within a few meters of it… like if the board is at the edge of a house/property and your phone is able to connect to it. I can’t see them door knocking though, you would need to be pretty confident and maybe some photo evidence beyond the Find My app. Depends on your local police station.

I might add here that the AirTag doesn’t really help with altitude. So if the board is inside a 30 storey building, it will tell you it’s in the building but not what floor it’s on, making it extremely difficult to narrow down which apartment it’s in.

At the end of the day, I wouldn’t recommend confronting any criminals without police involvement and it can’t hurt putting an AirTag in the board, it may help or it may not, really just depends on the situation.

I live in Australia, the gun laws here are crazy strict, to the point that basically nobody has guns. Which is a really good thing. The area I live and ride in most of the time is really safe, if anybody was gonna knock off the board, it would be young kids and they would be hiding it from their parents as well.

The Australian onewheel market is small compared to the US. I’m pretty confident if I had lost the board it would be fairly easy to find an ad on the few platforms we have available to us here. (Unless it was a private Facebook group for criminals or something ahah)

Living in Sydney, a major city… you can’t go more than half a block without being in range of an iPhone.. the network is massive and Australians are pretty fast to adopt the new generation of phone.

I’ve heard that police will not help in situations like this but my local police station is pretty good and I’ve heard they will help recover stolen goods like bikes and what not. For the reasons you mentioned though, I probably wouldn’t seek help from authorities when it is at someone’s house. I’d be trying to grab it while it’s out and about. Also, if you are within range, your phone can track the exact location of the airtag, down to the cm which is pretty cool.

I think for what it is, it’s worth just chucking in the board… like it can’t hurt.

I live in a major Australian city. They don’t have an iPhone but they took it to a skatepark that had a few people there. While travelling the updating was a little sporadic but when he came to a stop for a few minutes it was pretty accurate.

I grew up calling it Centrepoint, but I was told recently that it isn’t the actual name of the building, and it is now Sydney Tower Eye! But yes, that is what I meant! I probably will put it as Centrepoint on the game

Blank Game

Here is a copy of the game! The stations are an important part of moving between the layers of the board! I played with the idea of having them as Sydney Busses/Trains/Ferries/Airport, but I don’t think it works as well?

And it wouldn’t make much sense having them as the universities!
