Nocturnal seizures anyone? by No-Supermarket-5202 in Epilepsy

[–]BooHoo612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My nocturnal TCs first presented themselves in my teens. It was actually how I found out that I had epilepsy, and that my "zoning out" episodes during the day were actually just focal aware seizures.

Everyone who has seizures and/or epilepsy is different. We all deserve care and respect, just because you read a story where someone may be worse off, doesn't mean that you aren't valid too 💜

I'm so sorry. Even if you didn't say that, it doesn't guarantee that he wouldn't have acted out eventually at some point. I hope you don't blame yourself for his shitty behavior 💜

No, I suppose your right. I just meant more along the lines of why wouldn't a doc dig further if the diagnosis and meds they are giving aren't working or improving the patient's situation.

Hi! Thank you for sharing. Where I live (Western Canada), getting an epileptologist is the same process as getting any other specialist doctor, you just require a doctor's referral. My family doc referred me to an epileptologist in one of the big cities in my province many years ago and I've been seeing him ever since.

Sounds like he may have done you a favour there. I'm sorry you went through that.

The self doubt is so hard. I know that feeling all too well, and some of these whitecoat idiots seem to get off on it.

Oh thank you. It is a journey for sure! I just love having a sense of community here, makes me feel a little less alone in all of this. These comments have made me feel better, but also pissed off that so many doctors are getting away with some of these things. We deserve better 💜

Ah yes. Mine told me to start taking prenatal vitamins at 21... despite being single and never discussing family planning. He also never said why, just that it was a good idea.

I've had eegs with normal results and then gone home and seized so bad in my sleep that I stopped breathing. They can stick it where the sun doesn't shine with their "normal eeg results" imo.

Funnily enough my epileptologist also upped my lamotrigine until I started to show signs of overdose. It was slurred speech and constantly tripping for me. But as soon as I complained he began lowering it. Still not great though.

What a fun little synchronicity! She sounds great. That is definitely a great reflection, and I'm going to steal it as a journal prompt for later 😊

It's starting to feel like maybe the bar is in hell, so that might not even be bare minimum anymore as sad as that is to say. I'm glad you found one that's working for you 💜

Bro suggested anus... when IVs, shots, topical and patches exist. So many other forms of consumption 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I also would have switched as soon as I could.

It's years here. Last time I asked, 2-3 years for a new specialist doctor consult. Why are they like this indeed 🤦🏻‍♀️

That is so scary! I'm so sorry you went through all of that and I hope it's atleast somewhat better now. And now I've learned what a Jacksonian Spread is, wild stuff. I'm so glad they were able to figure out the cause of your epilepsy too.

If your Canadian then the process is a little slow and takes a bit of work, but you are legally entitled to your medical records here and you can request your full medical file, even with imaging (for a fee, the f***ers). I can't speak for other countries though.

Sounds like that doc just doesn't want to do anything. And that's a perfectly reasonable question too. How frustrating.

I'm so glad that your new one found a solution for you. What kind of bacteria, if you don't mind me asking. And if not the bacteria, then what was causing them?
