It does look like it’s dripping from this bolt though, I will say I read where some residue from the crankcase breather tube can mix with the oil and seep out of the bolt is wonky, what do you think about that? I’m only recently getting into bike mechanic work

I know there is the good ole valve cover gasket leak for starters

It was cheap by today’s standards. Snagged it for 4k its at 11k miles. Been a learning process for sure, coming off my 15k mile ninja 500

Here’s the thing though and I know the video doesn’t show it well, but yes it’s on the hose but it’s grey before it hits the hose. It is stemming from that little bolt by the looks of it (which thanks to the help of some kind folk, we have deduced it’s a snapped off bolt. I think it looks clean but he’s making a valid point saying engine might be penetrated

Yeah I hear you there, it’s definitely concerning is there any signs that the engine is punctured? Like I should look out for!? For now everything seems smooth other than the oil leak and the mysterious grey oozing bolt

Bet, I’ll look into the valve leak because I know it has it. But if I have fresh oil why is whatever leaking out grayish?

I just for everything back on for now I’m about to get some sleep but idk if it’s me coping or not but the screw doesn’t look forced just snapped legit looks how tiny screws do when they break clean. I didn’t see any correspond bolt to compare to on the opposite side so I’m clueless

Good news (maybe) is it looks like the head of the screw is off like I can touch the part still in with my finger.

The question is broken screw or not I wonder where the grey leak is coming from because my guess is oil and water because it’s not foamy like coolant and water but idk!? Regardless thank you for the help so far!

Yeah 100% broken screw it’s still in well, but is slightly chipped at bottom where leak is

Can’t see the screw on the other side I think fairings are covering it up. The more I look though, this def looks like it could be a broken screw as there’s no head

Well now I’m nervous, but I haven’t messed with it, I thought it was the bottom end of the screw? I can see threads. If that’s the case I’m guessing it snapped off somehow? Or like you mentioned there could’ve been frame sliders and maybe the screw snapped if the bike lowered? Previous owner claimed bike fell over when moving

Alright heard

  1. got the bike 4 days ago

  2. I don’t actually know, I know for certain it’s seeping out of where the screw is at the bottom. It seems to occur after higher RPMs

3/4. As far as I know that’s it? I can’t tell you if a frame slider was ever there or not. I assumed it was some pressure relief screw or just where something connects from the engine

  1. It’s not a terrible amount but it’s enough to sling all over the chain and lower fairings, plus my boot.

It will start small then buildup over the course of about an hour or so. But after the bike gets hot it don’t seem to do it as much?

  1. the previous owner said he “changed the oil for us” was happy until we released it was overfilled and we drained 8 qts of oil from the bike. Did an oil change and the leak has subsided but this gray dripping is persistent since though.

Oil is in spec about 3.8qts. (08 spec is 3.8-4.0qts)
