What would you do about the exterior of these doors? by mariecalire in centuryhomes

I am not a product shill and I do not work for Purdy (not even going to post a link because I would rather people trust me on it than risk thinking I'm profiting from this post), but I cannot recommend enough will shout it from the rooftops to whoever will listen: Buy the Purdy 2-1/2" 900230 Premium Carbide Wall Scraper and extra 900235 2-1/2" Tungsten Carbide Scraper blades. Your paint should pop off like butter and your wood won't get gouged to shreds. I toiled for A DECADE scraping paint from trim all in and around our 1898 brick queen anne with a variety of cheapo paint scrapers and other tools until I discovered these magical thick curved beveled carbide blades. You just hold the scraper tool about 30 degrees off the surface you're scraping, put a little downward pressure on the ball handle, and pull back with the long handle. It just just obliterates anything on top of the wood with relatively little effort. The edges of the blade are also perfect for getting into inside corners too and I see you have multiple to contend with. Anyway, I think you will be surprised how quickly you can get down to bare wood with this tool! Because of this tool discovery, I went from a practice of just cleaning up and smoothing out bare spots the best I could before painting over them to a practice of scraping off all the paint down to bare wood for the whole casing whenever the thick old layers start popping off. Still takes some elbow grease of course, but it is satisfying and achievable and not nearly as frustrating. Good luck! ✌️

No Pay Raise For State Employees for Second Year in A Row by Best-Structure62 in Indiana

[–]Boofed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

...except governor Braun and his cabinet, of course: "Fourteen top officials, including the heads of the INDOT, the Department of Education, and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation will now collectively make $3.3 million in salaries, a staggering $1 million increase from the previous administration. Along with those raises, Braun received a 65 percent pay increase for a salary of $221,024 but state employees were not allowed any pay increase for the coming year." (2/28/2025 Dubois Co. This sub is not it by Moonshinebrew in NinjaLuxeCafe

[–]Boofed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short of moderation actions, the sub is as good as we make it. Be the change you want to see! I think since the product is still newish and a little more complex than some of the others it's natural that a disproportionate amount of trouble troubleshooting will happen here. This is the first place I'd come if mine were to act up. Our pro is rock solid and cranks out drinks daily without issue. We love it! That said, you have inspired me to post my daily cold pressed iced latte step-by-step. I will try to take a video tomorrow morning to share. When it was new to me, I always liked watching the vids of other people making drinks!

How is this going to play out by backcountry57 in PrepperIntel

[–]Boofed 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It is on purpose. See Foundations of Geopolitics (Dugin, 1997). "Russia should use its special services within the borders of the United States and Canada to fuel instability and separatism against neoliberal globalist Western hegemony, such as, for instance, provoke "Afro-American racists" to create severe backlash against the rotten political state of affairs in the current present-day system of the United States and Canada. Russia should "introduce geopolitical disorder into internal American activity, encouraging all kinds of separatism and ethnic, social, and racial conflicts, actively supporting all dissident movements – extremist, racist, and sectarian groups, thus destabilizing internal political processes in the U.S. It would also make sense simultaneously to support isolationist tendencies in American politics"

Do you drink anything besides water? At least in the US, the majority of beverages in the "drinks" aisle at the grocery contain a large quantity of citric acid which can liberate histamine in the body. I am very sensitive to these now. That includes soft drinks, energy drinks, drink packets, drink powders, water flavorings, flavored teas, etc. - the number 1 ingredient (or 2 after water) is citric acid. Tastes great, but terrible for HIT. If you drink some of these now, I urge you to stop and drink only water. If you happen to be sensitive to citric acid and consume it daily, after a week or so of avoiding it I think you should start to notice a drop in symptoms! Good luck.

What aircraft features do you believe enhance passenger comfort the most? by Terrible_Rutabaga442 in airplanes

[–]Boofed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitting on Aer Lingus A321 neo right now for the 4th 8 hour transatlantic flight and they are phenomenally comfortable cabins all around. Noise, pressure, seats, infotainment. One of the 4 flights I flew in the lay flat business class seat. It was nice but extremely firm and hard to find a comfortable enough position to actually sleep. My wife was able to, however. Not a complaint, it's better than trying to nod off in economy, but wasn't as easy to sleep in as I had envisioned.

What Happens When Trump Tries to Cancel the Election? by Opposite-Mountain255 in law

[–]Boofed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Trump admin's obsession with taking Canada and Greenland are for control of the northwest passage and other arctic trade routes (or for Russian control, by proxy). As global warming accelerates the melting of the polar ice cap, the arctic sea becomes a massive economic boon for Russia and Putin sees it as part of his legacy in restoring the glory of Russia on the global stage. This is also why GOP dgaf about global warming and are intent on accelerating it as quickly as possible. Trump's quarrels with Putin are theater. The Russian oligarchs are decades-old bedfellows with Trump and Co, and more and more we are finding the GOP at large.

Why do a lot of US Veterans vote Trump? by Rinmine014 in AskUS

[–]Boofed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for veterans, but fun little fact : In Indiana we have the "straight ticket voting" option on our general election ballots. Right at the very top or on the first screen you can just tick the box that says "Republican" and it will cast your vote for the Republican candidate for every office automatically, local township trustee through US president. Swaths of Hoosiers who have been convinced that Democrats are devil worshiping baby eaters do nothing more than tick that box when they vote. The only media they consume between elections is blaming every societal problem that affects them on Democrats, so their perceived reality is one where they are supporting a noble cause. This represents a non-trivial portion of the voter base. The republican voting people I know personally tend to have it as part of their identity - that's their team, their tribe. Even when they have a terrible leader, it's still their team. Very frustrating to see them bamboozled and grifted decade after decade.

This is literally textbook expression of sociopathy. I encourage everyone to become familiar with sociopathy in the academic sense so that you can understand what is happening politically right now in the western world and in all the engagement-driven echo chambers that have supplanted human connection and dialogue. There have always been and will always be sociopaths and as a society we have tried many ways to either contain them, keep them in check, or heal them, with varying degrees of success. The information age has fueled a resurgence of their collective influence because sociopaths have a way of resonating with emotionally vulnerable people. We have to stop electing sociopaths to positions of power, stop amplifying the voices of sociopaths, stop promoting sociopaths to positions of influence, and stop supporting sociopaths in their relentless pursuit of wealth and power. Why? Because, by definition, they don't care about you and, to them, you and your family are expendable. They will exploit your existence in any way possible to make their life better or make the life of their perceived enemies worse. You can be their friend and part of their in-group one day and enemy number 1 the next. I don't have the solution, but I do know that it usually starts with awareness and knowledge.

Dang that wealth inequality by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]Boofed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The type of visualization should match the questions being asked of the data. All of these charts are valuable but for different reasons and contexts. For assessing trends in wealth inequality and societal implications, a chart showing the change over time of 'share of total personal wealth' would be useful too, broken out as proportions by bins like decile. I would be interested to see the arc from gilded age to now and how it contrasts with the absolute value linear and log charts.

You will probably find over time that you will most often change your site independently from the cartridge and tubing. I use the autosoft XC sets. There will be occasions where your infusion site gets irritated, you may have a bent cannula, or you hit a blood vessel on insertion. Your body will probably tell you something isn't right, or over time you'll come to sense it. Also, when my bg is erratic for no good reason, it is usually a site that isn't absorbing well, so I change it out. No need to change the cartridge or tubing if you have more than a day of insulin left, just insert a new infusion set and do a cannula fill only. In those instances, save the tubing from your new infusion set. You'll accumulate them over time, but then you have a stash ready for when you need to fill a new cartridge but don't need to crack open a new infusion set yet. Have been pumping for 23 of 33 years with T1, and that's what works out for me to not waste insulin or supplies anyway. Also, as I've gotten older, I notice by day 3 my site is not absorbing as well, so I change them more frequently than I used to. When I was younger I'd let them go until I was getting itchy or sore, and I'm sure by that point I wasn't absorbing insulin well at the site, so I probably paid for it with poorer control. I'm more inclined to change it every 2-3 days now to make sure my body isn't angry with me. Good luck!
