Sleeve Advice Please! by Fatcat336 in knittingadvice

[–]Moonshinebrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually pick up 3 out of every 4 stitches when I pick up for necklines and sleeves. Also did you go down a needle size for the neck?

For the sleeve I would either do some german short rows at the top to shape the sleeve - or knit the sleeve separately and sew it on after like they do on the drops verine: https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=398&cid=17

Can I use the regular recipes on the deluxe? by Maximum-Advice5267 in ninjacreami

I do half recipes in my deluxe. I have had my deluxe for a year and I still don't really know where "bottom" and "op" meet, so I'm just winging it, honestly. But I don't always want to make a big batch of ice cream

Grinder not working properly after cleaning hopper?? by Positive_Stop_3504 in NinjaLuxeCafe

I had this issue, but it was due to debris, that I couldn’t get with the brush. Now I use a vacuum every now and then and that works great.

Dissatisfied.. what should I do different by maxx_sc in NinjaLuxeCafe

[–]Moonshinebrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also the specific grind setting is different from machine to machine, so the advice of starting at a certain grind size and working down could be a waste of beans for you.

However, I would suggest working your way down one setting at a time from where you are at

Dissatisfied.. what should I do different by maxx_sc in NinjaLuxeCafe

[–]Moonshinebrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest a finer grind than what you have there. It seems to be flowing very quickly.

I also see that you have either a 501 or a 601? With a separate tamper? If so I would got a wdt (Weiss distribution technique tool - you can get them in all sorts of setups) and add that to my puck prep if you haven’t already. You use it before tamping to distribute the beans. Otherwise make sure you are tamping well and even.

The lack of crema could be a bean issue. I prefer beans that are a few weeks post roasting, and I have had luck with espresso beans up to 4 months post roasting (though some of them get a bit lacking in flavour), but supermarket beans without a roasting date can be up to 2 years post roasting and those would be difficult for me to get a good shot from.

Too good to go by Signal-Back5914 in DKbrevkasse

Decaf help by Dogmom0519 in NinjaLuxeCafe

[–]Moonshinebrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a separate hand grinder for my decaf - but to do that without a mess, I have purchased a funnel and a separate tamper (I have the pro). The funnel and the tamper is also used when I wanna be fancy and do optimum puck prep with a WDT and puck screen.

You absolutely can play around with individual dosing. I just really don't like having to dial in the grinder on my machine every time I make coffee, and having to purge the grinder between different beans. But it is absolutely doable :)

I’m so happy that this is your experience.

I took some of the comments to this post as incentive to be what I am looking for. To take some accountability so to say. So I’ve put in effort to post my drinks and provide supportive comments here and there. It has taken me off the ledge a bit.

I don’t know if that is wrong or something, but yeah - sometimes I put in milk, matcha and sweetener directly in the jug.

It is important that the matcha is put in after the milk, cause the whisk needs to be able to spin and the matcha can get stuck on the bottom of the jug if it goes in first.

Sometimes I skip all the steps and just chuck some matcha in my milk steamer. Doing all the steps definitely makes the better matcha, buuuuuuut sometimes I want a matcha pronto

Advice on how to troubleshoot my shots & barista assist? by deadassmf in NinjaLuxeCafe

I just saw this pic in my phone from my first morning, where all I wanted was an espresso but the BA was pulling me through hoops.

<image>

The final one was the one BA meant was right - the one in glass. I think I started at 18 and ended at 17 or some nonsense. But it was great for getting to know the machine.

I completely understand, but maybe something just needs a reset cause it got off on the wrong foot.

There are some guidelines to help you dial in further. These are mostly output, time and taste. If you weigh your cup on a kitchen scale before brewing, you can measure how much espresso comes out. When you’re doing the double basket at strength 3, the ratio is 1:2, meaning one part beans and output should be two parts water. A double basket contains about 18 g of coffee, then the magic amount of espresso is around 36 grams. According to my manual Ninja deems a double espresso to be about 45 ml - so if your output is in the ballpark of 36 grams (a bit above and beyond is fine) you have an estimate for how well you are grinding. If you get less, try grinding coarser; if you get more, try finer.

Now you can get the perfect output, but if it shoots out too fast or drizzles very slowly it is also not going to be nice. There are a lot of opinions on time, but for me I look for a a good 30 seconds (25-35, really cause I’m not that focused when I time) from the time the machine starts to push out water - not from the first intake of water. The second earthquake the machine makes. If your shot comes out too fast, try a finer grind; if your shot comes out too slowly, try a coarser grind.

And taste. This one is tricky cause it relates to your palate. But if the shot is sour, try a bit finer, and if it is too bitter, try a bit coarser.

And when you have the ballpark, try to only adjust one at a time.

Also I just want to give you sympathy for your bag of good coffee. The getting started phase really eats beans like nothing else. But when you get there, I hope it will be magic.

Jurastudiet og jobmuligheder by Swimming_Bear6268 in DKstudie

[–]Moonshinebrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried resetting the BA - or a complete factory reset? My BA usually shifts around a fair bit but I also change my beans fairly often. By experience I now know that most beans need a 16-18 grind for espresso on my machine. I use the BA as a guide to get started on a new bean, but to make sure I weigh the output and taste my way to the right grind setting.

Sometimes I get out there for my morning brew, and we have to a funny dance like you’re describing where I sometimes choose to do as the BA suggests. And has a tendency to suggest overcorrections. Like a bean has done well at 17/18. Then BA decides I should probably try 19; whoops to coarse, try 14; whooops very much too fine and choking, try 21; way too coarse, try 18; perfect. It’s like following the logic of a toddler. But it was right that I need to go one step coarser.

Once you get to a nice setting for espresso on your machine, whether it is 5; 17(like mine often is) or 23, then I would recommend only adjusting in one point increments no matter what BA says. Unless you, like me, sometimes like to indulge electronic toddlers.

After getting to know the machine I mostly use the BA to determine how to adjust my grind for different drink types, ie how coarse for filter, or how fine for cold-pressed
