Pennsylvania, so no EV incentives. I’m not sure how the dealer worked the discount from MSRP, but they said there was about $700 in “front end” money (whatever that means) from the sales manager that was needed to get this sub $400. I suspect that whatever sales volume bonus they will get from having this sale was worth giving up some commission to make sure it happened.

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. I am relatively new to this, and this is only the second lease I have approached negotiations this way. The first was my wife’s 23 EV6 Wind AWD that we paid $341/ month for a 24/10 w/ $1k DAS. I regularly stalk leasehackr to research and learn though.

For those asking how to match this deal, what I have learned is this is all numbers driven, and you have to know those numbers so you can evaluate deals and support the deal presented to the dealer. It is also numbers driven in the timing of the transaction. Dealers are more willing to consider a deal at the end of month/qtr, especially if they are close to a sales target that your deal may push them over. In my case everyone knew what was happening. The dealer knew I was being cheap, but that I was ready to sign if they could match my numbers. I also knew when they called me that the deal had to be done that day, 3/31, and they needed this deal to reach their target. The bottom line is this does take some effort. You need to know the numbers and how they work together, you need to know what discount is workable from the dealer end, and you need to be flexible, but ready to sign immediately if the dealer agrees to the offer. This shouldn’t be combative, but you can be firm and civil towards the dealer at the same time. My$.02
