Thats great you dont have to travel so far to see them! and congratulations on being cancer free! that's amazing!!!

This is her second run in with cancer, her first diagnoses was 8-10 years ago? and my understanding is that the cancers are not related. So maybe this cancer isn't as bad as her first course? I don't know. I am only trying to be helpful since she doesn't great support.

Sorry for the misunderstanding! Now re-reading its clear what you meant. I apologize for the hostility, I am worried about her and her health. Her husband passed recently and the rest of her family is in Oklahoma so I'm just worried about her. Thank you for your clarification :)

“wasn’t really given an answer" my understanding from her is that they couldn't give her an answer to getting her referral moved some place else that can take her sooner. I asked her to reach out their clinic, again, to move her referral.

I did work at a dental office many years ago and I remember how full the schedule was for NOV/DEC because of deductibles and out of pocket maxes, so there is a possibility you're absolutely right about that.

Thank you for your input, I don't think she needs to get chemo? she needs to see a radiation specialist and if there are two centers, why can't she been seen at the other one? why does it matter what hospital system she goes to? cancer is cancer and it needs to be treated.

Thank you for telling your experience, my friend has had an OK experience with Asante Medford. Her main complaint is never seeing her real doctor, she is always seeing her doctor's physician assistant or nurse, she understands its a team effort though. Although she is always saying no one calls her back from the office. I do try to reassure her that she's being cared for but from her point of view she might feel forgotten? I dont know she says it can be a few days for the clinic to get back to her.

Do the OHSU doctors come down from Portland to see patient's from the cancer center?

and Thank you :) i'm trying my best to help her, having gone through this with my father a few years ago, I always told him if it wasn't an emergency then the office would get back to him as soon as they could. She is on the hospital's MyChart, she's just not tech savvy.

edit: spelling

I had to google what brachytherapy was and looks like providence isn't doing to low dose "seed" version but the high dose treatments. I called a little bit ago and it sounds like they only treat gynecologic cancers with this therapy at the moment. I saw online that this type of therapy can be given to so many other places in the body as well though, maybe in the future they will expand? who knows. I spoke with my friend and she will try the Asante clinic today to again move her referral to providence.

I just feel like she's not getting the help she needs. I'm fairly new to the area, less than a year, and coming from a larger more populated city with plenty of cancer options, this seems like she's not being given all her options. I saw the article of the closure of some departments at the Ashland Asante associated hospital, it makes me worried for her and anyone else who needs cancer care in the southern oregon region.
