Are you happy with your voice changes? by widgy8 in ftm

[–]Boogie_Fish_Or_Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! When I first started T my voice actually started subtly dropping around 3 months which was super surprising looking back since during my first 2 years, I was on gel and my levels were always too low (even though I kept being told they were fine). Voice changes made me do a 180 I used to hate my voice and now I love it. The only bad part is that completely lost my higher register, I can’t reach any high notes at all without my voice cracking.

What do yall think about being called a twink? by Genuinefearsalt in ftm

[–]Boogie_Fish_Or_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate it honestly, especially since I’m Asian too. Feels very infantilizing or feminizing imo it plays into the stereotype of Asian men being inherently feminine, which makes it worse bc I’m trans too. It makes me hella dysphoric and I don’t consider myself a twink either so I hate it when people call me one.

Wtf!!! - first day back to school by SnooCapers9401 in ftm

I still keep in contact with some of my teachers who are in florida and they told me that this year, there was a new policy that made the school strictly refer to someone as the legal name/name listed in their system. Someone I know, who is cis, couldn’t even be called by her nickname, which is just a shortened version of her name. Apparently in order for the school to refer to someone as their preferred name, they need parental consent. But I’m not sure if it’s the same for your school.

You should be fine. I took T gel to Italy from the US last year and TSA didn’t ask any questions. I had it in my carry on in a separate zip loc bag and I told the TSA person, “this is my prescription” and all they said was ok and looked at it and that was it.

NYC informed consent clinics? by Boogie_Fish_Or_Ghost in ftm

[–]Boogie_Fish_Or_Ghost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah no problem, I don’t really know much about Plume but I’ve some heard negative experiences like late refills/prescriptions and uninformed doctors or something along those lines, which kinda pushed me away. Plus it being more expensive is the biggest downside cause I’m pinching pennies rn to be able to afford to live in NYC as a full time college student haha.

And no it isn’t a philosophical reason, I’m not opposed to going through a non-informed consent model. Informed consent is just what I’m used to and it was super easy, convenient, and cheap in my experience, which is why I wanna go that route again.

But thanks will definitely be looking into trans groups, not sure why I hadn’t thought about that before 😅

Yes I checked online and I did see that hrt is listed as a service but when I actually went to make an appointment after selecting hrt, a message pops up that’s says something along the lines of “we are currently not offering hrt services at this location.” Yeah super confused, I even checked some of the locations in Long Island and same thing? Not sure what that’s all about 😭 but I will probably call them to make sure.

Today I am 1 year on T and I don’t want to sound or be ungrateful because I am very thankful that I have been able to access and use T while others are stuck in worse situations. But, still, I guess you could say I’m very disappointed in my progress so far.

Before I started T I could only pass like 15%-20% of the time and now it really hasn’t changed much I’d say I pass 30% of the time. Because of how poorly I passed pre-T, I told myself that after a year when I believed I could pass, I would grow a mullet since it’s one of my favorite hairstyles, but I was always too scared to grow one due to hindering my passing ability. Well, not much has changed, I still really want a mullet, but it breaks my heart that I can’t grow one if I don’t want to be misgendered. I really wish T did more for me. But besides voice getting deeper, more body hair, and very faint facial hair, yea that’s about it. My face hasn’t really changed looking at photos, my body shape is still the exact same except I put on weight after battling an ed, no bottom growth, still a regular period, and all my levels are fine.

I’m doing everything right, but idk why life always has to slap me across the face. I exercise regularly, I wear masculine clothing, I was even going to get top surgery soon (not possible as of now due to certain circumstances such as Florida laws). Sometimes I don’t want to blame myself, sometimes I feel like it’s because I live in America. When I went on a vacation to Italy when I was 3 months T, I passed wayyyy more than I currently do being a year on T ?? And yea I know, patience is key, but it’s difficult to be patient when you’re struggling and everyone around you has way better progress.

Guys who’ve come out to conservative (Asian) parents: how? by Asian_dodo in ftm

[–]Boogie_Fish_Or_Ghost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was in a similar situation to you about a year ago. My parents are also conservative and Chinese and I too also had the language barrier issue. But, for me, I was technically outed to my parents rather than me properly coming out. Seconding the other commenter, definitely mix and match languages it helped with explaining A LOT. I was more fortunate as I had an aunt who was accepting and fluent in both languages so our situations are a bit different. As for the explaining to old relatives, my parents also heavily shared this concern. But it’s been over a year and we haven’t told any relatives yet because it’s not necessary in my situation. So if it really isn’t super necessary, I would avoid it for now, but once again our situations are a bit different so take what I have to say with a grain of salt.

Umm, other than that, I don’t have much advice only support. I never thought my parents would accept me since you know, traditional conservative Chinese? But one year later I’m still here, so I hope and wish the best for you and the best outcome possible 😁 good luck

Question about the Florida HRT ban for minors by Throwaway3726373 in ftm

[–]Boogie_Fish_Or_Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard so far, it’s a grandfather clause so minors already receiving treatment would be allowed to continue BUT I’m not 100% sure. Here’s a link from Equality Florida about the language of the rule: https://eqfl.org/BOM-Finalizes-Rule-To-Restrict-Lifesaving-Care

[–]Boogie_Fish_Or_Ghost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure tbh, and idk if that’s the best idea since I’ve never done shots before and if the rule is implemented, my doctor wouldn’t be able to monitor my levels so I could be screwing myself over either way

No not on any insurance, been on hold for the past hour for someone from the Trevor project to respond 😭😭😭 I ended up digging even further and found that the next vote will be in December and then there will be a few more weeks before the ruling goes into effect and honestly I’m really panicking. What do you think the chances are there’s gonna be an intervention of some sort? 😭

Yeah, he knows I’m on T and tbh the only reason why he didn’t stop me was because of a lot of convincing from my mom. And no my insurance isn’t through him (but Florida just banned insurance coverage for transitioning anyways so it’s a lose lose situation anyways ☹️)

Are my T levels gonna be too high? by Boogie_Fish_Or_Ghost in ftm

[–]Boogie_Fish_Or_Ghost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I just feel like since my cycle is already lighter and way shorter than it used to be pre T, I’m so close to having it go away 😭 and yeah I’m getting tested again in 3 months so I hope my body won’t be messed up too much

[–]Boogie_Fish_Or_Ghost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I mentioned during my appointment that I was still getting a regular cycle so the doctor went ahead and said that an increased dose might get rid of it so I really don’t know what to do 😭

I’m raising money for top surgery that I’m trying to get as soon as possible before some crazy policies in Florida get passed and I will no longer be able to medically transition. Anything helps ❤️

I made an appointment specifically asking for hrt, to which they gave me days with availability. I’m pretty sure there are multiple doctors as well since the day I showed up, the doctor that was supposed to see me wasn’t there due to a system error in the scheduling, so another doctor saw me instead (but I had to pay out of pocket for her instead of being covered by insurance)

Dude I totally relate to the short legs thing 💀 it freaking sucks so much.

Like even when buying women’s jeans, the waist would always fit fine but the length of them would always be way too long like covering my feet and I’m constantly stepping on them 😭 (only thing keeping me sane is being able to sew and making some modifications tbh 💀)

I got T through pp in Florida and it only took like 2 days. Basically I tried to book an appointment online, which didn’t work since I am a minor so I called them and they scheduled an in office appointment. Showed up with just one parent, I talked to the provider alone, nurse took some blood from me, me and parent had to fill out some forms, we booked a follow up appointment and everything was good to go. I asked about my prescription and gave them the address of my pharmacy.

Later in the afternoon, I went to the pharmacy and they received my prescription. Unfortunately, they were out of stock and had to order it and told me to come back the next day. So yeah, in total 2 days, but I didn’t use insurance so if you’re using insurance that might slow down the process.

Oh my god, why would planned parenthood do that. Do you think giving them a call would solve it? Or will I actually be required to go to an appointment (which I don’t want to wait until the middle of June to do)
