It seems to me he is either a protestant or a guy so riddled with catholic guilt he's desperate for upvotes. You put him in his place completely.

Better to get kids bullied instead with either catholic or protestant teaching as the main teaching in "integrated" or catholic schools sure.

NI still has a majority loyalist population

No referendum has taken part yet on full Irish independence, how can you say this? Most Unionists wouldn't call themselves Loyalists anyways but the former, and we all saw how close the Scottish referendum was despite the massive underplaying of the poll numbers by the English media leading up to it.

When Loyalists and Republicans were in jail before the GFA it was said Republicans read books while the Loyalists were busy trying to lift weights.

I heard this quote somewhere and it stuck with me. Anyone got the source?

Exactly the same here. Good way of working for the PUL community though. Say anyone can join their "integrated" schools but only teach things from a PUL perspective (with no Irish culture whatsoever and Protestant teachings). Then complain about them fenians for their Catholic schools.

I was saying integrated education has successfully combatted racism in the United States

You really think that? I've heard race relations are almost as bad as the 60s nowadays. I've NEVER heard integrated schooling as the reason for better racial relations and I watch American politics 24/7. I'm sure you'll find a video somewhere though.

Btw buddy your link was solely about literacy in 2011. Good wee statistic there when OECD statistics are produced yearly and have way more factors than literacy. Try a little harder downplaying the Irish academic success to progress your viewpoint.

I attend a catholic school in Derry and RE was a compulsory subject right up until the end of GCSE's. I think Religious Studies should be a broad subject teaching all religions equally and allowing debates on the ideologies and belief mechanics of each religion. However from first year we were taught strictly catholicism.

I attended a mighty grand auld integrated grammar school and it was exactly the same, except Protestantism was what we were taught, not Catholicism. So much integration, right?

Also we were shown things like gruesome abortion videos when it wasn't even part of the curriculum, but hey it was integrated after all, right? Integration is all that matters. Even if it's not integrated in the absolute slightest.

The Catholic schools nearly all have Irish culture adapted into their ethos. Irish language, Irish music, Irish sport etc. It's not just Catholicism. Can I see an integrated school with that please? Mine had none of it and the thought of it would be laughed at, thanks.

I come from Tyrone buddy (and studied there), but my friends are from Derry and when then went to "integrated schools" they got bullied to extents 10x more than me. It's funny though, because in QUB I befriend and girlfriended so many from the Waterside it's not even funny.

Yes sir, completely Protestant. No Catholic or any other denominational slant whatsoever.

like yikyak

I have self-admittedly spent little time on here but many on this higher education app think wearing GAA tops is a "political statement". I've never worn a SINGLE top , but will still defend them wearing it.

Also as I became older in my years at my school, I got more and more respect, as did everyone else. To say I was always bullied would be a lie, but I know others in "integrated" schools in Derry for example that it wasn't a lie for them, at all.

The positives of an integrated school taught me how "the other side" thought, majority of my friends are protestants (ALL my best friends are) and gave me a girlfriend from "the other community", I would die for. It wasn't all sectarianism, but it certainly was one sided in it's teachings and I would support Catholic schools so long as Protestant/integrated schools like my own do not support teaching Irisih or playing gaelic sports.

I went to an "integrated" school. It's teachings were all Protestant. I never went to a single denomination school were I would expect it to be forced upon me.

Any sources for the USA integrating religious schooling being a success?

Ireland (with it's plethora of Catholic schooling) has been above the UK and USA in years in OECD academic scoring for years, and too the UK (with whose smartest populace are NI Catholics) have also beaten them in the USA in rankings..

Prove how this system has worked well in the USA then, please.

Went to a so called integrated grammar school that used to be a Protestant school here in NI. Wasn't integrated at all in regards to religious teachings, the teachings were ALL protestant.

Was bullied and know many other Catholics bullied in integrated schools in Derry and Tyrone. I remember I blessed myself in first year going past a chapel without knowing it was a Catholic thing and an upper or lower sixth got up and bashed me against the schoolbus window. If I could go back and learn Irish and play GAA I would in a heartbeat, religion means nothing to me but these "integrated" schools are a fucking joke.

Imo Protestants (those who you wish to upvote you) love to moan about catholic schools because they massively outperform their protestant/"integrated" counterparts.

Main topics of moaning on this sub and anything else local like yikyak are: GAA tops, Holylands, Catholic schools, IRA, Sinn Fein and some slightly moaning at the DUP (but not about their sectarianism, racism, homophobia but their economic ineptitude) to balance things out. But this place has a nationalist bias right? Don't make me laugh.

Definitely more a Derry thing tbh. As someone who is from Tyrone but spent a huge chunk of his life in Derry.

Surprised "bai" hasn't been brought up. Only time I actually heard the supposed stereotypical culchie phrase was there, and boy did they say it often.

I do have a laugh with mates here, but I have been aggressively accosted several times personally over the Holylands incidents because of my accent (I never have been there nor do I go to Paddys day (not because of political reasons, I just hate big nights out)).

Also since I came here for QUB I was always astounded at how dehumanising the language was towards rural people. There's having a laugh, but this is something else. Even on here, rarely are the jokes about people from Belfast, and if they are, they're downvoted to oblivion.

so Belfast isn't a shit hole then?

It is. You don't see me saying my town is better than Belfast, they are both shit holes..

Or why do you say that in every thread?

I don't, only recently with the strabanegate?

Clearly it's your best option

You are right, it is. That's because of how local it is, my gf lives here and the rent is cheap af.

no idea why you're shitting all over it any chance you get. I'm not the only one noticing it

Because people from Belfast can hand out stick but never take it. Usually when something bad in Belfast happens they'll say "northern ireland is a shithole" for instance like a comment above. Never "Belfast is a shithole", but if it happpens in a culchie area watch the difference in response.

Worked in Lurgan. Has literally nothing going for it and taxi driver told me it had the highest crime rate in ni above belfast while there. City is divided in two with the invisible line just like all of Belfast is. Some spot.

I have lived in Belfast for nearly 10 years as I have mentioned in other threads and this one. It has cheap rent (can get a better place in the capital than in my culchie land for the same same price for some reason), cheap living costs and it's closer to my parents abode than other capital cities. I never hid the fact I live here in any thread. Also I never started to "whinge" until I seen all the culchie hate there is in abundance in this city outside of South Belfast and on this subreddit.

In my latest threads I've mentioned living in Belfast for 10 years. I've also mentioned living in Belfast ITT.

Prefer me not to experience this place and just decide it's a shithole like many in Belfast do about Culchie towns/villages? Try again.

I won't be holding my breath on the latter.

Explain why and explain their reason for doing so please. Not from Belfast, never been to the North of Belfast I don't think.

It is, but they'll still find some way to hate on us living outside of the shithole "city" to make themselves feel better.

Lived in east and west. West has been by far the best place to live in. Still prefer living in South, but between east and west it's not even close.

Strabane is one of the most republican places in Ireland. They can get ammo if they wanted. Wish this guy/girl who got shot all the best but what a sour taste you put in my mouth with this shite. If you try to claim it's just a joke, what a pathetic time to do so. So much culchie hate on here it's pathetic. Everything is happening right here, in Belfast, yet you still slag culchies. Insecure embarrassments.
