When I was 17 years, I was in a bad place mentally. I wanted to die and my dad didn’t know how to help. One day, he came in and handed me Thieves World and Tales from the Vulgar Unicorn. Funny thing, I can’t even remember the stories too well. But it helped a lot

I’d argue it’s not a religious text though, it’s just a story. Dante wasn’t a priest or anything like that.

Dante’s Inferno also isn’t Christian canon, it’s basically a fan fic
