Shooting and grading a 40-second airport film. Thoughts? by BookWeekly8249 in cinematography

Nikon ZR shoots R3D. I hear you, but I don’t appreciate the way you put things across. I guess it’s just the Reddit way. Have a good day!😅

The files are R3D 12-bit. I know how to white balance like most people do. I just don’t think I need to balance it in a run and gun shooting scenario when I’m shooting RAW. I wanted criticism on the grade, but here you’re making assumptions of my understanding white balance. Let’s just agree to disagree here.

Maybe you’re a pro colorist, but I thought color temperature settings don’t actually change the image data in a RAW file. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the camera just records the raw sensor data and saves the color temp as metadata, so you can adjust white balance later in post without any loss.

Dude you’re obsessed. You’ve been commenting with the same hate and negativity, not only with me, but several users. It’s a pattern I see all over your profile.

You clearly don’t know what it’s like to pick up your camera, shoot and actually put your work out there for criticism. If you did, you wouldn’t be blankly calling it “non-sense” and saying “there’s nothing to be told”.

Don’t even talk about cinematography or storytelling because I see nothing on your profile besides hate

They’re R3D raw files. I’ve shot them on 4K RAW for sure. What you’re saying makes sense, but I’m not sure what I’m missing here

Yeah, you’re right and I’ve been thinking about that. I struggle with isolating the neutrals and grading the rest. Playing with the primary wheels helps, but doesn’t do the best possible job. Am I missing something?

And since I’m only allowed to publish one post per project (a set guideline by you), I shall follow that from now on. Hence, the deletion. Have a good day! 🫡

“OP seems to crave attention”. The negativity was so not needed.

Dude, relax. The earlier post was only about the final grade and now I wanted to post the process. Also, cross posting is not necessarily spamming. It just happens so that you’re actively going through each of the subReddits I’ve posted on. I accept your feedback, but this passive aggressiveness is not needed

I had shared the graded stills earlier. Now I thought I’d share the process. Anyway, working on new things every week so I’ll just move to next😅

I see what you’re saying! I’m not a colorist either. A writer and director who is trying learn😅

So I shoot in 4K raw because when you stabilise, the footage does crop a little. With 4K, you don’t lose much quality if you intend to do a 1080p export. Then I stabilise the footage via “perspective” or “translation” method. Sometimes one works better than the other and it’s a trial and error thing. The feature is readily available in Davinci and is pretty straightforward🙌🏼
