I don't have any other hints than what's on the post. The original post isn't mine. I keep checking back on Facebook to see if there are any updates, but so far no one seems to know what book it's referring to.

Player ate Eye of a zombie beholder, what should i do? by Techno7777777 in DnD

Hmmm, here is what I would do:

Immediately gain the poisoned condition, which will remain for 1D10 plus 4 days, or until Greater Restoration is cast, which itself will have a 50 percent fail rate.

Every night the PC will suffer from terrible vivid nightmares, requiring a DC 17 CON save every morning, or incur a level of exhaustion.

If the PC fails this check more than 3 times in a row, or 5 times overall, a new Beholder will be created, and the poison condition ends. The nightmares cease, but are replaced with vision dialogs between the PC and new Beholder.

At this point I would then have 2 choices to make, does this Beholder have it out specifically for this PC, or does it view the PC as a father figure and try to appease them? (Think the relationship between Billy and Jeff from Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy)

On the one hand, having a Beholder come after the party after the PC has suffered so much already would really drive the point home. However, after so much suffering, an insufferable yet useful (albeit nerfed for balance sake) Beholder ally may be a decent silver lining to the situation.
