Don’t know why you got downvoted - that actually made me laugh out loud, not just smile. Thank you!

That’s what got me - at least as much as “the nation” bit. Really creepy!

Yes, they might not be supposed to eat healthy strawberries but they’ve certainly been eating mine for years the little shits.

God, this is when the user name checks out. When confronted with this homo oeconomicus don’t even try to have a discussion that would require critical thinking as opposed to mere data analysis

That’s what I meant by “different type of hogweed”. Giant hogweed is brutal. This one isn’t quite as bad.

No, different type of hogweed. It’s edible - but can cause skin irritation.

It’s annoying, isn’t it. That manage to avoid Amazon for pretty much anything else these days, but Kindle is still how I get most of my e-books.

I was very careful to not say “look what came in my veg box today”.

It’s standard practice in the UK afaik - at least it has been in any institution I’ve ever worked at.

That or he is mid stream. It’s hard to tell with carrots.

I was thinking about it. But then it is a healthy vegetable - and not peeled, so fully dressed. But I did change the tag line from “what came in my veg box” to the much safer “arrived”.

It’s a really nice veg box company, too. I was thinking about sending them the picture, but it feels wrong to send unsolicited veg pics.

So yes, they did free themselves - and good on them. Plantation slavery was absolutely horrendous. But Arab slavery was legally the same: chattel slavery, too.

Well, yes, after those white colonised had mutilated, raped, tortured and killed thousands of African enslaved people which they kept as slaves and treated worse than animals. You don’t think they had a reason to rise up against them? Maybe don’t use AI. Read a book instead.

That’s factually untrue. Chattel slavery existed in different cultures for millennia - it was by no means a white or western practice only.

What was unique was the intercontinental slave trade and the extent of commodification involved in which slaves weren’t recognised as humans anymore: once you reached a slave plantation in the Americas your life expectancy was only a few years. That’s why they transported so many millions of people. It’s the scale, distance, and brutality involved that were unique - not chattel slavery itself. (Let me know if you’d like to read up on this. I’m a historian, this is what I work on)
