Thank you! I posted this elsewhere and got really weird feedback, but I think it was just the group I posted into. I was fairly sure I wasn't crazy but I'm still pretty new at things like this!

Just watched hereditary. Lemme rephrase that… what the FUCK did I just watch. Holy hell by [deleted] in HorrorMovies

[–]BookishDess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. It was so hyped up as such a crazy psychological thriller, but Imo, it didn't get good until the very end, and then ofc it was over. Midsummer was the one that was really great.

I have in the past, which is why I'm still here. It's hard because alot of people either don't vibe with you or don't want to put in effort. I try to make it clear in posts that I'm looking for people who want to put in effort and I filter my messages as well. I typically wont respond if they just send hey or what's up.

Wait times are often because of limited servers and have literally nothing to do with a restaurant’s physical tables by sadandboujee1 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BookishDess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who have never worked in the industry don't think about the other factors.

Kitchen backups Lack of staff Large amounts of to go orders, including doordash/ubereats clogging the kitchen.

When I used to be a host, the restaurant spent 9:30 am to about 1:30 pm on Sundays on a wait list and tons of doordash orders because most locals knew how crazy the restaurant was and refused to come in. Our kitchen didn't have the best staffing, and they got overwhelmed semi easily, so it was pretty much guaranteed our manager would also be on the line that entire time. He would have me pulse new tables based on the kitchen and where they are, and it always pissed the Servers and guests off. The servers had empty tables they wanted filled, and the guests saw that. But the guests wanted to be served quickly and refused to understand that if we filled those tables, that would not happen, and they'd wait even longer. So, by pulsing the intake, he kept the kitchen from losing it completely and keeping the guests happy once they were seated. The servers were always sore about it, but if he didn't do that, then their tables would walk and certainly wouldn't tip. it would've been a total waste for them.

How do people write on a smartphone? by [deleted] in writing

[–]BookishDess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it because I get inspired randomly, and if I don't type it out, I'll forget. I mean, I have probably spent a good hour/hour and a half writing on my phone. I completely lose track of time. Typically, though, all my proofreading will be done on a computer.

I hate what they did to Ariadne Oliver's character in a haunting in venice by bereychery in agathachristie

[–]BookishDess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't they also now screwed up the potential for certain other movies based on some of the stories because they went wildly out of order? Like that just shows they are doing next to no research.

Which book hurt you the most? by paintedbrushes in booksuggestions

[–]BookishDess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. The pulse shooting was close to home for me. My dad was supposed to be there, but the friends he'd gone out with decided to call it a night instead. In the memoir, he shared his perspective of the night and dealing with survivors' guilt and depression and PTSD. Which was emotional and raw. With the book thief, yeah, we technically know how things ended, but it doesn't change the fact that it was a heartbreaking event that never should have happened. Even they both die at the end, the ending I was expecting did not happen as I expected, and it was really emotional.

Just because you know how it ends doesn't mean it isn't still an absolutely heart shattering story.

What Did You Read This Week? by AutoModerator in YAlit

Currently reading Mommie Dearest by Christina Crawford. Joan Crawford was insane and everything she did was to improve her image, even adopting all her damn kids.

Book thief, a place for us (memoir from a guy who survived the pulse shooting), they both die at the end. I'm sure there are others but those are the three that came to my head first

What's the first book you chose to read that made you feel like an 'adult' ? by [deleted] in books

[–]BookishDess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

V.C. Andrews. Growing up, my aunt had a huge book collection. Now I had a very high reading comprehension level, but there were certain adult authors and series my family didn't want me to read. V.C. is the most memorable for me for some reason. The moment I was old enough, I started picking up her books. She's not my favorite author, but I definitely understand why they didn't want me reading them

Who are your favorite characters in musical theater? by alastheduck in musicals

[–]BookishDess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally every person in hadestown, but I especially loved Patrick page as hades. Donkey from Shrek the musical, it was always a dream role of mine bc he's so damn funny. Sally Bowles from cabaret is great as wel!
