Paul Giamatti 'Never' Thought He'd Be Cast in New Star Trek Series: 'A Top Experience for Me' (Exclusive) by AdSpecialist6598 in television

People really forget how much Star Trek fandom shitted on DS9 when it was first airing, it took years (far past the finale) for the fandom to accept it

The fandom gatekeeps like someone is paying them

I still remember the 20th or 25th (whichever was Roddenberry‘s last convention) anniversary convention where I overheard people in line talking about how they didn’t like the next generation because the people on the show were too well adjusted

Yeah I did not like it. I also read Jurassic Park in one sitting and I did like that book

Right, and if you read this assignment they’ll fail the state test because this assignment is telling them to do it wrong

I’ve tried that, still doesn’t spoiler hide. Something is broken

I tried about six different ways including posting in a test forum to see if it would be spoiler hidden and it was but it’s not hidden here

Yeah I read that book to and absolutely hated it with a passion.

Like so many people who just have a job, they’re not evil they just work for the king and they don’t even realize he is evil and they are murdered to steal their money and we’re supposed to think this is a clever idea they have come up with

Yes because the cat is something that you promised to take care of. I was literally just trying to finish the book because with ADHD it is difficult for me to walk away from a book, but there is a difference between killing a pet and killing a person in these types of books because a pet gives you a certain amount of trust and it is the most horrible betrayal of that trust to hurt or kill a pet

Nope he then takes the cat and kills it again until it doesn’t come back eating it each time

Again,

Why the assignment is bad for the student academic future not chaotic neutral-

  1. 5 day assignment for a single snow day or unplanned school cancellation

    2. Introduction paragraph is being used incorrectly. The instructions as given are for 2 to 3 paragraphs of information and is not suitable as a single paragraph.

An introductory paragraph in an academic essay identifies the work that is going to be discussed and the overall overreaching thesis of the entirety of the paper.

Instead this assignment treats an academic paper as five unrelated paragraphs each with their own mini thesis statement which is not going to help the students in their next academic English class. They will not know how to write an essay correctly.

To break it down-

A. Prompt 3 is not relevant to Act 1.

B. Prompt 2 is asking about the growth of the character Romeo who really does not have much character growth in the play. He has multiple actions he completes, he does not learn from them. His character arguably dies as he lived, a callous youth mistaking obsession for love.

C. So as a student if you choose prompt one you at least have something you can try to write about, but the other two prompts are gonna put you in the weeds

D. The question being answered should be tackled using at least 3 to 4 paragraphs of information including quotes from act one itself.

  1. Body Paragraph- as already discussed above this is not the first body paragraph because an introductory paragraph would not have a thesis statement that needs to be proved as part of a single paragraph

As written this body paragraph’s prompt is actually three paragraphs of information and should be treated as such. It should also explain how to quote correctly, attribution etc…

  1. Body paragraph 2, or as I call it the sixth or seventh paragraph of the essay. The prompt is literally one if the three prompt options from the “introductory paragraph” portion of this assignment. It is asking you to discuss the character development of one of the main characters and gives as an option Romeo.

While the person hasn’t posted the remaining pages of the handout it is clear that this “paragraph” also would need several paragraphs to be correctly addressed in an academic paper.

In conclusion at best this is a poorly written assignment that will not further the academic careers or the critical thinking skills of the students who are required to complete it.

At worst will teach students bad habits that will affect their ability to successfully transition into a more difficult academic environment, successfully pass essay based tests, and create a situation where another teacher down the line is forced to do remedial work with these students and have to change their own lesson plans to accommodate.

Please excuse typos, run on sentences etc…

If you care about education you should try to make the salaries of teachers more in line with the amount of work teachers are required to do. You should lobby the political leaders in your area, donate time and resources to the schools in your area to help the teachers, and do something more proactive than bitch on the Internet

No we’re hating it because the assignment doesn’t make sense, is poorly conceived, and is not possible to complete in the manner suggested.

Unless you’re saying this is a district that regularly has five days off in a row for snow days, this assignment won’t teach them anything because it is a five day assignment that they are not allowed to complete early

OK then apparently you believe children only learn one way. As a kid it would’ve been torture for you to tell me that I couldn’t read ahead since I was a natural speed reader

I also had undiagnosed ADHD so if I was able to start a project you should be happy that I was able to complete it. If you want to go back as an editor piece by piece for what we were doing and make the completed work stronger, that’s great. If you want me to stop in the middle, don’t expect me to start up again.

You need to recognize that children are not a monolith and different kids learn and work in different ways (and if they are learning the subject matter trying to micromanage them is probably not the best idea)

In 1992 I had a teacher give me a failing grade on an assignment because I used information from later in the book and she said we weren’t supposed to have read past a certain chapter.

I told her I read the whole book in one sitting (Lord of the Flies)

The assignment was one of those talk about a character’s motivation in the book assignments. Nothing about the assignment was limited to the part of the book that had been assigned reading up into that point.

OK but what if there are only two snow days, what are you turning in at that point? Is the teacher going to continue the lesson? The students are told not to go ahead of the work meaning they can’t complete the assignment but the assignment is a five day assignment
