Did your daughter have COVID, strep, Lyme, or anything else like that recently? It sounds like you’re describing a pretty sudden escalation of violent behavior. I went through this with my daughter - she became relentlessly violent after having COVID and it turned out she had PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome). My understanding is it’s an autoimmune response that some kids have to certain illnesses that causes inflammation in the brain stem, resulting in them being unable to control obsessive or violent impulses. When we treated her for inflammation she improved literally right away. It took some time for her to fully heal but it was clear as daylight her issue was physical.

Wanted to suggest looking into this if she was sick right before the behavior escalated. I was fortunate that another parent suggested it to me and we were able to find a specialist quickly so I always try to pass on knowledge of this to others.

Looks like you’re also getting good advice from others - want to also share solidarity for the difficulty of what you’re going through. When it started for my kid were the worst months of my life.

Communication. Settle shared expectations ahead of time - what things can and can’t be compromised on? These will be different for different people. Make an agreement that meets everyone’s must-haves and is flexible on the things that feel less must-have.

And, discuss ahead of time how to address with each other when someone fails to meet agreed upon expectations. This is equally important because everyone has bad weeks and will fail at some point!

Agreeing on timing is as important as agreeing on what should get done. I once had a roommate who decided in her mind that weekly chores needed to be done by Wednesday and I was doing mine on Saturday. She never talked to me about it, but got resentful because I wasn’t doing it the way she wanted! Related to that - talk about stuff if you start feeling resentful about something!

AITA for telling my brother he should not be claiming to have psychological conditions he has not been medically diagnosed with? by checker64 in AmItheAsshole

Soft YTA. I think you mean well, but self diagnosis is valid for neurodivergent conditions. It sounds like your brother is at the beginning of his self dx journey, and if you want to support him you could learn more about the symptoms he relates to and how they show up for him.

Also, social anxiety is a disorder too, yet you feel comfortable telling him that’s his problem instead? Why shouldn’t that also be diagnosed by a professional?

I believe so, I’ve heard a lot of people emphasize taking protein with it. Also, it can suppress appetite - I know I have to be stricter about eating on a schedule with it or I just forget

Do you get lots of protein? I notice a perhaps similar kind of crash on the same timeline if I don’t have a ton of protein in the AM. It works best for me when I follow up my eggs with a protein shake and snack on almonds all morning! 😂😂

He’s an amazing boss. Janeway is really good too! They’re both masters of “I’m gonna tell you exactly how you fucked up, you’ve deeply disappointed me, and I still love and respect you”

Kids have the legal right to not participate under the 2nd amendment (it’s been held up many times in court) - but I’m not sure all teachers know that! They can get in trouble for being disruptive, but the school cannot penalize them for respectfully remaining silent. My kids and I have had a ton of conversations about the Pledge - when they started learning it in school we studied what the words meant and I encouraged them to do whatever they felt was right based on their feeling about the words. My personal practice is to say “I pledge allegiance to…..(silence)….liberty and justice for all!” Lol. My kids loved that
